What are all the things one can think of that make up a PERFECT holiday?
Great accommodation, a perfect host, fantastic tours, activities on tap, transfers on time, a location to absolutely die for and all wrapped in a package of natural beauty that is very hard to beat - that best describes our stay at Sanbis!
Sanbis met, exceeded and kept on exceeding all of our expectations and that's saying something!
Mbabanga Island (on which Sanbis Resort is situated) and the surrounding islands and waters are close to what is best described as a eco-ark of species. If you are into seeing marine life and terrestrial wildlife that you has not seen before, then Sanbis and its environs cannot be beat!
If you are into the perfect pacific photo shot of waters that are every shade of blue that ones imagination can conjure, then this is also the place for you.
Sanbis is beautifully situated facing the majestic island of Kolombangara. The sunsets and sunrises are simply breath-taking I was over-awed by beauty that is hard to define.
Sanbis operates on a eco-friendly basis. The cabins which all facing the ocean have been thoughtfully spaced so that privacy is assured. The cabins are clean, well maintained and again exceeded my expectations. I loved relaxing on the balcony overlooking the water - a lovey part of each day for us there.
All meals were beautifully prepared in a spotless kitchen by staff who really know how to cook up a storm! One can chose from a menu that changes frequently enough to inspire one to try everything! I recommended the wood-fired pizza's which are the best I have ever tired outside of Australia.
SCUBA, snorkeling, fishing or anything that looks like relaxing - Sanbis has in spades! Go exploring through a local village...pop over to Gizo via boat or get out and explore Olesana Island or even majestic Kolombangara Island. Whatever one wants is never an issue. That is extremely pleasing because this is where a lot of resorts fall down in my expectation. I will never forget the day Ravi took us to Olesana! An island all to ourself all day! One can choose a BBQ lunch or sandwiches to take. How fantastic is that?? :-) We had 7 hrs of bliss...its hard to beat!
The location is very remote and therefore it is beholden to travellers to be prepared for the challenges of remote holidaying. To get to Sanbis one must travel to Honiara (capital of the Solomons) and then transfer to Gizo and then a boat transfer to Sanbis. All day traveling can be tiring but well worth the effort!
Please include mosquito repellent and 30+ sunblock in amounts necessary for your stay.
From an environmental point of view also be aware that coral comes right up to the shoreline here and should not be walked on. Sea grass meadows (more rare than you can imagine now in the oceans) are where Dugongs like to graze and should also be treated with respect.
Lastly be appreciative of the environment we are all in and treat the ocean with respect and have heaps of fun!
FINAL WORDS OF PRAISE
In my experience, its a rare combination to have a location that can be best described as heaven and the staff that are a delight to just talk with. Their genuine smiles as I stumbled through rusty Solomoni Pisin (Pisin blong mi buggerup alketa LOL) always made me feel so welcome and relaxed. Hans is to be congratulated in his courtesy and friendliness as host (& owner) and ably backed up by staff that are just too too awesome!
Hans and everyone: tanku tumas alketa!!
