Stopped in Macon for the night and found this place on Tripadvisor.. so glad we did.. When you first walk in it's the entrance for 2-resturants.. Downstairs is the Rookery where we had a beer and hung out for a bit. Very lively crowd, the place was packed on a Thursday night! All the food that came out looked amazing.. But, we decided to go upstairs to Dovetail.. So glad we did!!

We started off with the "Put-ups" it's an appetizer with warm bread and 4-delioush spreads..My husband had the trout and I had the Scottish salmon.. Both were like a taste explosion! For dessert we had cracked pie with salted caramel ice cream.. and well all I can say is wow!! My husband also ordered an espresso which he said was "the best he's ever had".

The restaurant was lightly decorated for Christmas and was busy but not as packed "shoulder to shoulder" like the Rookery.. Our waiter was knowledgeable and we never felt rushed...So if you're looking for something more romantic , with amazing food and service.. this is your place.

After attending the Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols at St Joseph's, we went to Dovetail for a little something sweet. We had the cracked pie, pumpkin cheesecake and egg nog creme brûlée. Every thing was delish. The next time we are in town, we are hoping to have dinner there.

We visited Dovetail on the recommendation of the people at 1842 Inn. And we thank them for that recommendation. The upstairs location is quiet and friendly with nice spacing between tables. Wait staff very low key and friendly. Always on top of things without being intrusive at all. The local ingredient, modern southern dinner was just exceptional and very reasonable. Highly recommended.

We wanted to try some fine dining with "farm to table" elements, and this place was it. We were glad to have made a reservation; the restaurant was pretty small. The lighting was dim, and southern music was playing in the background. Servers wore plaid and were very friendly and helpful with menu suggestions. We as a table of four adults ordered put-ups as an appetizer and shared it around. The bacon marmalade kept us talking - how in the world did they make this amazing marmalade??? The four dips were put into mini mason jars, which was cute. The bread was made from a local source, according to the server.

For entrees, we ordered and shared the quail, rabbit, center cut tenderloin, and trout. For sides, we shared the mac and cheese and brussel sprouts. The quail was extremely small, but most of the bones were removed, so we could enjoy the taste of the quail; it was only OK. The rabbit was rich and tasty. The center cut tenderloin was perfect, moist, buttery. They server said it was Wagu. The trout was crispy and done well.

For dessert, we shared the cracked pie and the chocolate hazelnut pie. Both were decadent. We think the cracked pie was nicely done: both sweet and salty. The chocolate hazelnut pie was sweeter than any of the four of us could handle, so we all voted for the cracked pie.
