If you've ever longed to sit on the white-columned verandah of an antebellum home sipping a mint julep, This is The Place!! We really can't say enough about the service here. The staff - Joanne, Lacresia, EJ, Antonio, and others behind the scenes - make the 1842 what it is, a wonderful old Southern mansion full of charm and gentility.

We stayed in the Macon Room, upstairs, front in the original house. Loved it! High ceilings and windows, comfortable bed, nice bath and closet; furnished with a few antiques. To really get the feel of staying in an antebellum mansion, we would recommend choosing one of the rooms in the Old House. However, the entire downstairs and verandah are common areas, furnished with antiques and tastefully decorated.

Breakfast was wonderful, ordered the night before, with a choice of service in one of the parlors or outside in the garden between the two buildings. We had ours on the front verandah our last morning - a fitting farewell.

Service was amazing, we went in for hot water to have afternoon tea, and Lacresia brought us tea service with fresh, home-made cookies. After having juice we'd brought with us on the verandah, the next morning Joanne - unasked and unasking - brought out the same variety of juice for our breakfast. All needs were met and expectations were exceeded.

I (the husband) had three mint juleps during our stay here. They were strong and delicious, made with their own julep syrup, and not weak and syrupy like some I've had elsewhere. The bar is attended, with good wine selections as well as liquors.

We've stayed in many B&B's and small inns. The 1842 speaks to its region more than any other we've found. It is run with a grace and charm that frankly cannot be found outside the South.

Everything about the 1842 Inn was excellent. Every single member of staff was friendly and professional, the room was clean and comfortable, the complimentary evening canapes were delicious, the breakfast was served at our convenience outside as requested and was freshly prepared. Just sitting on the porch relaxing was a pleasure. This is what I had hoped for in a Southern Inn but had been disappointed in Savannah.Come to Macon and stay here. You won't be disappointed.

We were sitting on the large front porch unwinding after a day of travel. Unrequested and completely unexpected, Joanne brought out a tray with hot decaf and cookies! How delightful! She chatted with us and made us feel at home! Could not ask for a better feeling.
We stayed in a lodging detached from and behind the main house. It felt quite authentic with high ceilings and substantial woodwork. The bed unfortunately, had a springy box spring and any movement by one of us shook the other. So we tended to wake each other in the night. Sadly, separate beds were not an option at the 1842 Inn.
Dining at the Lemongrass Café in downtown Macon is not too far away and is highly recommended. The breakfast at the 1842 Inn was excellent -- especially the cheese-stuffed French toast. We had breakfast in the front room of the main house -- it was serenely quiet and elegant.

Beautiful, elegant Inn, Nicest wrap around porch ever. Take some time to enjoy it! beautiful grounds and sitting area inside and out. Great location near everything. Service is 5 star, E.J took great care of us and was super friendly. We travelled with our dog and the hotel was great about it! We had a lovely breakfast that was included. Our room was not huge but very elegant and comfortable with a view out to the garden patio. It was it a lovely treat staying at such an historic Inn.

Upon arriving at the 1842 Inn in Macon we were immediately taken by the inn's presentation both inside and out. The staff and the furnishing were of such unique quality that we were completely taken back to the days of service and details of making everyone welcome that the south is so known for! EJ, George, both Gloria(s), Keith and Julie and all the staff took care of us with absolute grace and attention to our every need and request. We highly recommend the 1842 Inn to anyone looking for a unique B and B experience. The Mercer Room that we stayed in was very nice and big. The Breakfast was so good and very tasty and the evening gathering with Hors d'oeuvres was delightful.

My daughter and I stayed at the Inn on a recent visit to Mercer University. The inn is absolutely gorgeous! The hostesses were amazing and made us feel right at home. Our room was very spacious and beautifully decorated. Breakfast in the parlor with my daughter was a nice treat. We had our own little table set up and decorated- it was absolutely lovely. We will definitely return on our next visit to the area.

Another single night stop in an Inn after a number of chain hotels on this road trip. We'd have been pleased to have had longer here. Great location within easy driving distance for a historic houses evening drive-by. Evening buffet with tea on the terrace a nice touch. Comfortable old style room, helpful staff, and an interesting breakfast all added to the attraction of this place. Worth knowing that it is part of a group of historic inns.
