“Still first on my list of fields to visit in NZ”

Mount Lyford Alpine Resort
Reviewed 10 August 2013

been coming here since the 90's. Truly one of the best family fields around. Terrain may not be super challenging for some but the shirt-front can still scare the crap out of you at times. Basic kiwi facilities which has got better each season.
Some of the best things about this field
They let you ride your mountain bike up and down the approach road...Awesome
There is usually a dog or 2 at the top car park..
It's great value
The log cabins at the bottom of the field
The Pub!!!
It's still a bit of a secret

Thank Derrick M

Lyford gets the snow and the sun! Always a big solid base. A couple of brilliant steep faces to ride, groovy ridge riding, pow pow, Its got Pomas, t-bar and the easiest rope tow in Canterbury that gives you plenty of time to get on. Great hang out cafe offering simplistic Kiwi tucker at its best with nice prices. Did I mention great fresh track riding! Friendly local hospitality. Its my wifes favourite field in Canterbury. Sorry Im still a Craigy snob. The lodge at the bottom has hot out door spa pools that are always filled and turned on with the best views ever! Good for dinner and beer by the fire there as well plus accommodation. Or rent a wood cabin for the weekend for that true alpine experience cheaper than any where else in the NZ alps. If you havent been to Lyford just go. There is something for all with no crowds! Good beginners slopes as well. 1 foot plus pow every time. Lyford continuously gets more snow than any other field in NZ. Have I just given away a secret??

Thank Kurtations
