The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The "cheap" rooms are euro-style which means that there is a sink in the room but the toilet and showers are shared down the hall. This hotel was very clean and looked really nice. The linens (from bedding to wash clothes) are the best I have seen at any hotel that I have stayed at around the world. This is a great hotel at a very reasonable price and the service is excellent.

This is a great european style hotel at a good price. I stayed here for two nights in September 2012 wthile travelling for work and was not dissapointed. The location is great. It is right downtown(as the name implies) and close to restaurants, pubs, and shops. I checked in pretty early in the day, so I got to pick between the western "view" side which is a bit noisy or the eastern side with no view, but less street noise. I chose the view and enjoyed it, but there were loud trucks on the 101 at night and enthusiastic sea gulls in the morning. I was able to sleep fine, but you may want to bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper. The four shared bathrooms were just down the hall and very clean. I worried a little that they would be full in the mornings, but one was always available when I needed it. I would happily return to the PA Downtown Hotel.

We spent two weekend nights in this hotel. The room was clean, comfortable, the bathrooms very close, the neighbors quiet. A fan in the room helped keep the room cool though a screen on the window would have been nice. The staff were very friendly. Close to many eating places. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Our room was on the alley side, not the street side, which may be why it was nice and quiet.

Had a great experience. Kiki at the front desk was knowledgeable & friendly, and provided great recommendations for places to eat and get coffee in the morning. Our room had a sink outside the bathroom, which made it easier for the two of us to coordinate getting ready in the morning. The place is clean and has personality, and the price is fantastic!

When I want to gamble on vacation, I go to Vegas. Why is that pertinent when reviewing a hotel in Port Angeles? No, I didn't go to the Indian casinos down the road.

You gamble when you stay here that your neighbors will be civil. The first night - no problems - although we did hear snoring from next door when we awoke at 6 am - sounded like they were strangling a walrus - but it didn't disturb our sleep. The second night, our neighbors arrived "home" at around midnight. They slammed their door when they first arrived. And continued to slam it as each of them separately went and returned to the shared bathroom. They then proceeded to talk loudly for an hour. Great! The final night our neighbors were quiet until they got up at 5 am. They weren't particularly noisy, it's just that . . .

. . . if you're in one of the "European" rooms, it is exactly that, a room (ours was about 10 x 10). There isn't extra space to deaden the sound, and the walls certainly didn't help. There is little furniture and no drapes, so nothing deadens the sound. Oh, and the doors. Someone who tends to throw temper tantrums would LOVE living here - the impact they could make when they stormed out of a room!

But there are plenty of good things to report:
- The bed was comfortable and the towels were new and soft.
- The entire place was immaculate - from our room to the shared bathrooms.
- The front desk personnel were quite personable and helpful.
- And best of all (and really the ONLY reason to stay here) -- the PRICE! Crazy low!
- There's free parking in a lot just across the street.
- It is conveniently located - you can walk to numerous restaurants, the waterfront, and if you're ambitious, the grocery store that is just 5 or 6 blocks away. And you have easy access for day trips, as well as the ferry terminal.

Something you might worry about, but shouldn't: If you have one of the "European" rooms, you don't have a toilet or shower, just a sink. But we never had to wait to use one of the shared bathrooms - for any purpose.

Recommendations to management:
- Do something with those doors so they don't slam so loudly.
- Put a chest of drawers in each room - or in some of the rooms for people staying several nights. To unpack we had to strew our stuff all over the floor, as there is really no furniture in the room (there's a small table for the TV, with one small drawer, and a nightstand, with little space).
- Put a hook by the shower stall rather than just on the door. We never did figure out how to not to leave a drippy mess after showering.
- It would also be nice to have a shelf for clothes in the bathrooms. Not sure where we were supposed to put our clean clothes while we were showering (there are no lids on the toilets). So we precariously set them on the edge of the sink. Maybe we were supposed to bring bathrobes? There's a money-making idea for you - provide "Downtown Hotel" bathrobes to each guest, and charge them $90 when they steal them!
- Put drapes on the windows. The blinds are effective, but don't deaden the noise in the room, or do anything to deaden the noise from outside (and there is a LOT of that - I've never heard so many cars that need new mufflers . . . and the seagulls stopped being quaint after the first hour of constant "cawing."

One other thing that bothered us. The first day when we left we locked both the door handle lock (easy to bypass - any 8 year old or criminal knows how to get past those) and the very comforting deadbolt. When we came back our room had been cleaned, but the deadbolt was left unlocked. We knew to not leave valuables in the room, but still, management should lock the deadbolts after entering the room. On the matter of security - they also leave the "back door" open - it provides airflow and a 2nd floor view of the bay. But it also has an open-air stairway to the outside. Anyone could come up that stairway. And several times when we arrived / left, there was no one at the front desk (what we think is the primary manager tended to run numerous errands).

So do you feel lucky? You can save a few bucks, but you risk having your sleep interrupted. Would we stay here again? For the money? Yes. For the experience? No.

Stayed here Saturday Aug 18th 2012. I was a bit apprehensive about a room with no bath. Luckily I got a room right next to the bathroom so it felt like I had my own bath. And for $66 you can't beat it. Yes the seagulls were very loud and the roof next door and my view was the roof but that is not the hotel's fault and it was $66!!!! It was clean and the bed was magnificent! The shared bath was clean and the shower was not like a normal hotel shower that is pressure controlled. This was a full blast! Awesome! I highly recommend this place. Do not be afraid. I was a solo traveller and felt very safe.

This place was exactly what we needed. It was clean and the owner was helpful with dinner suggestions. Location right downtown was convenient. I don't think there was AC, but this wasn't a problem as long as we left the window open. The shared bathrooms were clean and there was never a wait. The only slight downside was the incredibly noisy seagulls who perch on the top of the roof. Luckily we were so exhausted from our hikes each day that we slept well anyway.

Room Tip: Rooms on the right side of the hotel (as you walk up the stairs) might be more quiet.
