I found the The Downtown Hotel through web searches for lodging on the Olympic Peninsula. I called to make reservations for a queen bedroom with bathroom, and asked the clerk to send me a confirmation receipt through email. Despite several emails to the hotel staff, I never received one.
When we arrived at the hotel at 6pm, we walked right up the stairs to the lobby (the hotel sits above a restaurant), only to find no one at the desk. There was a sign, saying to call the attendant and/or the manager and listed two phone numbers. The first was busy, and the second rang a phone sitting on the front desk before finally going to voicemail. We walked around the building, knocking on closet doors and asking other guests if they knew how to reach someone to check us in. Eventually, we just decided to take a walk around town and come back a little later.
Half hour later, when we checked back in, we caught the attendant as he was returning to the desk, and were able to get checked in. Apparently, the front desk clerk is usually in one of the rooms, rather at the desk, and you have to call for him if needed. (Of course that would be no big deal, if he answered the phone calls!)
After our initial concerns with checking in, the rest of our stay was event-free. The room was clean and had a fan to help with cooling (and noise), so no complaints there. The ensuite bathroom had a toilet and single-person shower stall, while the sink was in the bedroom itself. Although our window looked out onto the roof next door, we could see a hint of Strait of San Juan de Fuca behind it.
There is a small parking lot dedicated to the hotel on the next block, probably not big enough if all hotel guests need to park there, but we always got a spot.
