Rooster Hill Short Stay Suites
Ranked #8 of 14 Port Angeles B&B and Inns
Reviewed 18 September 2006

This Inn is not only gorgeous and extremely well decorated, it is also comfortable, with hosts that make you feel like family. We just got back from a whirlwind tour of the Olympic Peninsula and Vancouver Island and stayed in many delightful places, but this one topped all. The grounds are beautiful, the house is incredible, the bed was very comfortable, breakfast was delicious and more than enough. I can't say enough good things about our stay or the hosts. They really thought of everything and made us feel welcome. More like guests in their home, old friends rather than strangers. They have two adorable dogs that kept us company, however, we are dog people and if you didn't want the dogs around, they would have made sure to keep them away.

I give the Inn at Rooster Hill and its hosts, Peggy and Lane, my highest recommendation. This is THE place to stay.

I can't say enough good things about our stay at the Inn at Rooster Hill August 10-14, 2006! My husband and I had a wonderful time, which was greatly enhanced by the friendly atmosphere and gourmet breakfasts provided by Peggy and Layne. They went above and beyond the call of duty to make our stay comfortable and to recommend restaurants and activities in the area. We stayed in the Andrew room, which was spotlessly clean and had the most comfortable bed! Being from NC, we couldn’t imagine staying in a place without air conditioning in August, but it was very comfortable thanks to the great climate on the peninsula and a fan (that we didn’t even need to use at night). We don’t often stay in B&Bs, and any we stay with in the future will have to work really hard to equal this experience!

I had the pleasure to stay at the Inn at Rooster Hill this past July. The hosts, Peggy and Layne were so friendly and filled with great advice on restaurants and things to do in nearby Olympic National Park.
My room was beautifully decorated and the breakfasts were gormet all the way. I highly reccomend the Inn at Rooster Inn.

The innkeepers of Rooster Hill, Peggy Frehner and her husband Layne, did their utmost to make our stay as comfortable and entertaining as possible.

My mother and I were in town for the annual Lavender Festival in nearby Sequim, WA and Peggy was full of useful information - from where to park and how best to get around the festival to best dining tips for the evenings.

The Inn is full of charm and comfy furnishing, as well as a huge deck for taking your morning coffee. Peggy is a great chef so breakfast was varied as well as delicious! In celebration of the Lavender Fest, we dined on scones with lavender honey and lavender butter as well as other delectable comestibles.

The ability to use my laptop with their wi-fi was invaluable since I did need to keep in touch with my office during my stay.

I would stay there again with no hesitation.

Thanks for all the laughter! :o)

Not being a big fan of Port Angeles, we were happy to find this sanctuary. We had a beautiful suite, with a luxurious bath and huge closet/kitchenette.
Our breakfast was fabulous and the hosts charming. Wish we could have stayed longer - but on to our next stop.

We stayed here in Andrew's room before we left for Victoria and loved it so much that we decided to stay there again after our trip to Victoria. The breakfast was delicious. The swing out back on the tree was fun for both my husband and I. We enjoyed the hot tub under the stars too!! There was absolutely nothing we could find wrong and we are both fairly picky about our accomodations. Layne & Peggy were great hosts!!
On our second stay, we booked the top floor room because my husband is a light sleeper (I would have preferred Andrew's room again but he won the battle)....and he got the best nights sleep of our entire 9 night trip!!

The Inn at Rooster Hill is a quaint, freshly painted, four-story country home on a lush 2.5 acre lot, complete with apple and plum trees, blackberry bushes, two large maple trees with tire-swings on them, and huge patio decks with outdoor dining tables. When we got to the front door, we were greeted by Peggy, the Inn's owner/manager/chef/tour guide extraordinaire, and by Harley and CoCo, the Inn's resident Golden/Lab Retriever and Bichon Frise, respectively.

Peggy and her husband Layne have made the Inn feel warm, friendly, clean, and new. The dining room has several round bistro-style tables, cozy armchairs, antique chandeliers, and rooster-themed wall hangings. The adjacent sitting room has a small DVD library (which included recent hits such as the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Batman Begins, and King Kong), as well as maps, brochures, and other tourist information.

Peggy showed us to the Andrews Room, our travel- and astronomy-themed suite; the bookcase had dozens of back issues of National Geographic, a World War II-era globe, and several reference books on the physics of the universe. The linens and the black-and-white striped duvet were brand-new, as were the matching hand-sewn decorative pillows. The beautiful queen-sized bed frame was made of a deep, chestnut-colored wood. The bed itself was comfy, no doubt thanks to the thick, pillow-top mattress pad. The kitchenette had a microwave, a coffeemaker, microwave popcorn. The bathroom had locally made lavender soap and lotion.

The Inn uses organic and nontoxic cleaning products and avoids using heavy chemicals at all costs, even in the hot tub, which Peggy and Layne keep spotless thanks to a combination of bromine and natural enzymes, rather than chlorine.

Peggy also cooks with fresh, locally grown ingredients. For breakfast, she made me a vegetarian crustless quiche that was chock-full of flavorful zucchini, onions, and crimini mushrooms. She also puts out a table of continental breakfast items, including vanilla yogurt, granola, and fruit salad (so that you can build a do-it-yourself yogurt parfait), juice, coffee, and homemade bran muffins with an assortment of tasty jams.

After a long day of driving and hiking. we decided to soak in the hot tub (conveniently located outside our window) after grabbing a bite to eat in downtown Port Angeles. The temperature was set to a perfect 104 degrees. We sat and watched the stars.

As other folks have mentioned, the best part of staying here was Peggy and Layne's generosity and hospitality. They made us feel like family and welcomed us into their home. They gave us so many ideas for places to see, restaurants to try, etc. They gave us maps and made sure we knew how to get to where we wanted to go! We are already planning to go back in a few weeks. This place is a hidden gem!
