“A Perfect Getaway”
Reviewed 7 October 2013

Honestly, we rather expected the Mount Vernon on the Strait of Juan de Fuca to be a little over the top in the "precious" catgory but we were so wrong. Janet and Dan (no powdered wigs!) were so very warm an welcoming. The accommodations are magnificent -- including the tub, the fireplace and the spectacular views from every window. We were there on a pretty rainy weekend but Janet and Dan made some great suggestions for day trips and restaurants (although the breakfasts were so sumptuous, we didn't feel like lunch until well into the afternoon!)The George Washington Inn is simply one of the most lovely spots we've visited; it is truly luxurious without being stiff or pretentious. We can't wait to go back!

Janet and her husband are perfect B&B hosts. Amazing breakfast. Amazing room. Wonderful landscape and views or both the mountains to the south and the water/Victoria to the north. We had been hiking for two days and this was a great place to recharge before heading to Rainier.

The George Washington Inn is by far the best bed and breakfast we have ever stayed at. Our room was spectacular. The views from every window were amazing. We could see the clouds rolling through the mountains and Victoria across the water. Every morning was a different gourmet breakfast. Homemade lavender biscuits, salmon omelette, fresh berry French toast, just to name a few. Delicious! We highly recommend the George Washington Inn!

We've visited Mt. Vernon in Virginia five times and this B&B is a near-exact replica of it--except for electricity and TV. This is an absolutely wonderful place to stay. The view is breath-taking, and this is a PERFECT place. Probably the best place that I've ever stayed, and it was worth every penny. My wife and I loved sitting on the quiet back porch and watching the sun set. The lawn is perfectly manicured and this place is spotless. This is a very special place with more than enough stuff to make you think this is a recreation of the real Mt. Vernon on the other coast. For the first time in about five years, I had the time to read a book, which I borrowed from the extensive library at this inn. The hostess worked hard to make us feel welcome and comfortable. The morning breakfasts were incredible. This is one of the best-kept secrets that we've found. We are counting down the days until we can stay again at this wonderful find.

Room Tip: We had the smallest room, the Surveyor Room, but it was more than big enough for the two of us. And...

Green Features: They use some type of geothermal system for heating, I think.

We stayed here for 3 nights for our 42nd anniversary, and we could not have been more pleased with our B&B choice. Dan and Janet were gracious hosts - very patient and helpful, and always ready with a smile. Our room was large, comfortable and spotless, with a pleasant "virtual" fireplace and beautiful views of the mountains and the lavender fields. The lavender store was fun to visit, and we enjoyed having Dan describe his oil still and his work distilling lavender and pine. Breakfasts were quite special with fantastic food items and great views of the water and Canada. We have stayed in many B&B's both in the US and abroad, and this is easily the best of the bunch. Our next visit is in the planning stages!

We stayed here for 3 nights during our tour of Olympic National Park. My partner and I had a fantastic time on this trip, and we attribute that largely to the quality of the George Washington Inn. We are extremely seasoned travelers, and we felt a singular sadness in leaving that we have not felt for many properties before or since.

Pros:
The rooms are capacious and elegantly decorated. The Inn is quite large, but only has a few rooms. As a result, each room is allocated plenty of space.

The views from our room were gorgeous--the Inn's lavender fields from the front window, the water of the sound (?) from the back window.

The bathtub was seriously unparalleled. After hard days of hiking, the jets in our private tub were a lovely way to end the day.

The breakfasts were lovingly prepared and uniformly delicious. It felt like Christmas waking up in the morning and wondering what Dan had in store that morning.

Cons:
The fireplace in the room is not an actual fireplace per se. It is a sort of hologram of flames that comes with a heating vent above it that blows hot air. Besides the general qualm of a 'fake' fireplace, the vent was placed such that it was hard to feel any substantial warmth when the fireplace was turned on.
