My wife and I went to Port Angeles to do some cycling. We stayed one night in the George Washington Inn. It was exactly as we hoped it would be. The calming smells of lavender greet you when you first get out of the car. The grounds are beautiful, the building warm and inviting. The room was spacious and comfortable. I also have to say how clean everything was. The inn was spotless. Everything about the Inn was perfect. And the food was delicious. As a bonus the Inn is only a mile from the Olympic Discovery Trail so its perfect for a romantic cycling weekend.

We loved our stay. The setting is unparalleled--on one side a view of the mountains, on the other the Strait of San Juan de Fuca and in front a Lavender Farm. Convenient location between Sequim and Port Angeles for dining and access to Olympic National Park. The rooms are very large with great whirlpool tubs. The breakfasts are delicious and home cooked--good variety over our 3 days. Two suggestions: please offer an earlier seating (8:30 gave us late start on our hikes) and options of yogurt or oatmeal for those wanting to eat lighter. The gluten-free alternatives made specially for our daughter were much appreciated! Rooms felt luxurious, but we were surprised by a few things: very poor sound insulation (our kids had the room below and we could hear each others' conversations, whirlpool baths and footsteps of other guests); pillows were very uncomfortable; towels were thin and scratchy--all surprising given this is an expensive luxury accommodation choice (especially when we had two rooms!); and the shower head hangs SO high that I had to have my husband adjust it for me every time--impossible to reach.

The Inn has a great location and stunning views of the San Juan Straits, the Olympic Mountains and their lavender farm. The rooms are quite big with views and lots of light. Our review would stop here if the rooms were priced around 130-200$, however since the actual price was 280-300$ our expectations were those of a truly 5 Star Inn and the Washington Inn left a lot to be desired. To mention a few, the sound insulation of the room was poor, as we could hear every step of the people upstairs above our room, the mattress and pillows very average, the towels very thin and ready for replacement, the sleepers clean/washed, but obviously previously used, the bathroom amenities just the basic shower soap, shampoo and conditioner (surprisingly not products of their lavender farm with the exception of the hand wash), no shower cup although the shower was so poorly designed (very high) that really sprayed allover the place. The Inn generally lacked that fine touch that would make you feel like a 5 star establishment --with minor cost the room could have a welcome basket (e.g. local produce or lavender cookies, they do sell a lavender recipe book and culinary produce after all, some flowers or lavender from their garden etc etc). Finally, breakfast started at 8.30am (a little late for those with hiking/travel plans) and although of very good quality, it was again very basic (bowl of fruit & cereal and a serving of eggs), no buffet for seconds, no bread, no jam .... We really feel that the owners have to either reduce their price or upgrade their service
ps. the plastic furniture in the garden do not go well with the "historic" Inn image

We appreciate you taking the time to provide your feedback. We are sorry that your expectations were not realized.

The Martha’s Suite in which you stayed is the only one of our five guest rooms that is on the ground floor. All other guest rooms are upstairs. In spite of good insulation, the hardwood floors cannot be completely sound-proofed in spite of our best efforts. Martha’s Suite is generally reserved for a party of three guests (due to the availability of the day bed), guests who require a ground-floor room for mobility purposes, or a last-minute reservation when the rest of the Inn is already booked.

The Amish Baked Oatmeal to which you referred is one of our most frequently-requested recipes, so we apologize that it was not to your liking. Bread/toast with jam is always available if requested. We make every attempt to accommodate dietary restrictions and preferences as long as we are notified, but our breakfasts are made from scratch each morning and require advance planning.

We would invite you to return and experience one of the upstairs rooms and another one of our breakfasts which typically includes a fruit dish, an egg-based entrée, and fresh-baked cinnamon rolls, scones or biscuits (or perhaps the Amish baked oatmeal).

Again, thanks for letting us know of your disappointment. It allows us to continue to improve our service.

My husband and I had an amazing stay at this inn. The inn is beautifully designed and maintained with very good attention to detail and every comfort needed by a traveler. Had gorgeous views of the mountains, ocean, lavender fields and sunsets. Dan and Janet are great hosts with warm hospitality and also serve delicious breakfasts.

This inn can match or surpass any five star accommodation on this continent.

We stayed two nights and felt extremely comfortable. A most beautiful place in a splendid environment between the sea and the mountains of Olympic National Park. The lavender farm enhances the special atmosphere of the structure. The hosts are very professional and pay due attention to the well-being of their guests. The rooms are well equipped, the only thing missing in our room (Surveyor Retreat) was a desk.
A highly recommendable place.

Room Tip: We think all rooms are excellent

For many years now, I have relied on Tripadvisor reviews to assist in locating the right lodging for my travels and I have to say that discovering the George Washington Inn has been the very best of all.

Back at the early 2014, while trying to plan a family vacation in the Pacific Northwest with some time near Olympic National Park, I came across the George Washington Inn on Tripadvisor. At first I wasn't so sure about it since it was a B & B - the last time I stayed at a B & B was in the mid 1990s prior to having a family - which then ruled B & B stays out. However, reading the glowing reviews drew me in and then seeing the various photos sold me.

The George Washington Inn is amazing in every way. From the moment we drove up its driveway lined with lavender in full bloom, it felt like we were in a fairy tale. The hosts, Dan and Jan Abbott are very gracious and accommodating. They truly have thought of every detail. From the delicious breakfasts, to the private entrances, bedding, etc. My party of 3 stayed in the Martha Washington Suite which is on the main floor. It was perfect. We had views of the mountains from our bathroom window and from our bedroom had view of the Straits. The size of the suite itself was huge and it was tastefully appointed.

Our stay at the George Washington Inn was probably my favorite part of a wonderful 2 week vacation in the Pacific Northwest. Staying there was magical. One morning we woke to fog rolling in from the Straits of Juan de Fuca, which then engulfed the Inn and rolled out into the lavender fields, with fog horns blowing in the distance. Another morning we woke to the sky above the Straits clear as anything, so much so that you could see Victoria Island.

We thought the Inn's location was terrific too. We used it as springboard to various areas of Olympic National Park, whether it was Hurricane Ridge or Crescent Lake. Also, it's a short drive to Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge where you can walk the 5.5 mile spit to the lighthouse. Both Dan and Jan are very knowledgeable about the area and provided us with nice recommendations for dinner and drives.

We enjoyed the George Washington Inn so much that we are seriously thinking about making a return trip to the area within the next year just to stay there again. A stay at George Washington Inn is luxury at it's best.

My Grandson and I were treated to a two night stay just after Sequim's annual Lavender Festival. The property is beautiful, immaculately kept and the Inn Keepers are very personable and accommodating. The view of the Straits of Juan de Fuca is simply lovely. It was a most enjoyable stay.
