“I LOVE this hotel!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 August 2009

Oh, let’s admit it. Salt Lake City is not the most scintillating destination. But after an interminable 11-hour drive from the San Francisco Bay Area, the Hotel Monaco was like an oasis of elegance and hipness in the middle of this desert. It’s like the anti-Salt Lake City. The public rooms are colorful, tasteful, sensuous. The fun continues in the rooms. We booked the Monte Carlo suite and arrived road-weary with our dog. The staff was gracious and welcoming – moments after the bellman left, housekeeping arrived with a doggie bed and food/water bowls. Hats off to the interior designers because the rooms decorated with a plethora of colors and patterns that is pure genius. Whimsical but elegant. It’s all in the details and unlike cookie-cutter chain hotels, Kimpton pays attention to small but important touches. Like a jogging map of Salt Lake City, multi-plug cords on top of the desk, roomy animal print bath robes, a stereo (music playing when we arrived – nice touch). The Monte Carlo suite has a huge bathroom with jetted bath and water temperature selector. Great after a long day on the road. Sign up ahead of time for the Kimpton In-Touch membership and get free wifi. I highly recommend this hotel – its right up there with Portland’s Hotel Lucia but much more luscious.

The lobby smells amazing upon arrival! Valet and front desk staff were super friendly and helpful with recommendations. The room is new, modern, and clean. The bed is SO comfy and you can actually snuggle up in the covers not grossed out thinking who may have been there before you. The connected restaurant, Bamabara, was delicious and convenient for dinner. The bar has been busy but didn't go myself. Only suggested improvement would be to have a trash can in the bathroom, but seriously, that is as much as I can think of to complain about, so...

Stayed at this hotel for 2 days. The staff was always helpful and courteous. Location perfect for business trip. First time stayed at a Kimpton Hotel and I was impressed. The restaurant downstairs was great for breakfast, which was included. Wireless required a few more steps than most other hotels in this class, but got it done by joining the Kimpton friends program. Room was comfortable and well appointed. When our car wouldn't start at the end of the trip, one of the helpful valet staff promptly gave us a jump so we could get to a dealer and get our battery replaced. Everything about the hotel was nice. Well Run and highly recommended.

The Hotel Monaco is a great place to stay in Salt Lake City, the service was the best I’ve experienced at a hotel in a long time. The staff is always going above and beyond. The added amenities were also great, free wireless, free boarding pass printing, fitness center, and the manager’s reception (with free chair massages). The bar/restaurant are also very nice. Breakfast was delicious! The location was also near some great dining options. My only complaint is the over-the-top décor. The room décor was a bit dizzying for me, stripes, checkers, colors, but with all that aside, if I find myself in Salt Lake City, I would certainly consider staying at the Hotel Monaco.

I LOVED this hotel! First off, let me give you a hint...I had booked originally and was paying almost $200/night, which is pretty pricy for me. We cancelled a few days before and I booked on hotwire (5 star hotel in salt lake city). Apparently this was the only 5 star hotel in SLC on the website (didn't know what hotel we were getting ahead of time) and so we ended up getting the Hotel Monaco again for $180 for two nights. Awesome deal!!

In any case, the rooms are styled in Alice in Wonderland style, with striped wallpapers and a creative armoir. The rooms aren't huge, but they definitely have character and style. The view wasn't anything special but it wasn't terrible either. Bed was really comfy, good amenities, and awesome service. The front desk gave us a map and some tips on sightseeing, we requested a goldfish in our room and got it, and the valet was pretty quick. I'd definitely recommend the hotel if you can get a decent price. Oh and the location is right near a tram station so that you can hop on and get to the main sites, plus there are great restaurants nearby.

There's a piano bar around the corner (keys on something...) where two guys will play just about any song on the piano, and a great tapas place called Eva's nearby.

Stayed here on a business, chose the hotel because others had been there before. Loved the decor and the special touches in the room-cloth shower curtains, red swags on bed and red chair. Nice touch with the wine reception, relaxing wind down after a long day. Would go back on my next trip-need to get your front desk a higher reception desk.

Beautiful, clean, large rooms. Great bath. Could use a better TV. Wine hour with free messages is great. Hula hoop for 20 seconds or win a rock, paper, scissors game for a free room upgrade. Pet friendly (I didn't see any) or they can lend you a gold fish. Great restaurant on site.
