As we drove from Yellowstone to Zion from rustic cabin to rustic lodge we needed a five star hotel and found what we were looking for. The reservation was done by my son by cell phone as soon as we got close enough to Salt Lake. I questioned the name of the hotel, picturing a fort wilderness at Disney in my mind. I was wrong, built for the Olympic games it is a stunning large building in the downtown area looking a lot like a few places in Paris just bigger. As soon as we pulled up our doors were opened and we were greeted with professional manner that we missed at our do it yourself lodges that we had been staying at. We touched nothing but our personal stuff and were escorted to the front desk where the kids were greeted with cookies and the wife and I got fresh lemon cooled watered. When the doors opened to the lobby a fresh wave of fresh flowers hits you not smelly tourist. The marble is from ceiling to floor and the decor is fabulously. Staff had us in a beautiful room overlooking the city and everything was first class even the size of the room. Of course a shower rating was an 7 nice roomy shower but pressure was a little weak darn water savers in the shower head. But again the marble bath and the plush towels and robes made up for weak pressure..The halls were deck out in nice furniture and the gardens were also beautiful and very nice to walk through. Someone spent some time on detail.
Food was first class and service five star also very professional waiter at our dinner service well educated in the industry. Such as everyone on staff at the hotel.
The pool area was also very well staffed and catered to your needs before needing them.
Even though we wanted to stay a couple more nights we had only one to enjoy this lovely hotel that I recommend as a stop over or any stay you have in Salt Lake City. When we went to leave car was waiting for us and stocked with water for the drive to Zion. The bellman and valet even placed a few of the fresh flowers for my wife in car best it had smelled in week and half. This kind of service does costs a little more than the regular hotels but well worth it when your on vacation. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Grand American and will enjoy returning for our trip to Bryce Canyon which we bypassed this go round.
In conclusion spoil yourself and stay at the Grand. Nome

This is a magnificent hotel and you feel it as soon as you arrive.

Pros:
1. I have never seen a lobby and grounds as beautiful in any hotel anywhere.
2. Fitness center and outdoor pool is spectacular.
3. Lobby lounge is a great place for drinks and snacks. Special kudos to the staff in the lounge Francesca and Michelle....terrific servers.
4. Garden Cafe for dinner is wonderful. Our waiter Jacob was terrific as well...very attentive and personal.
5. The entire staff here goes out of their way to know your name and treat you like royalty. That goes from the doorman to the management.
6. Even though this is certainly a 5 star hotel, the cost of the meals and drinks is VERY reasonable. Not cheap but not as ridiculous as other 5 star hotels around the country.
7. We had an Executive Queen Suite with was really lovely. The marble and fixtures in the bathroom were well...elegant.

Cons:
1. The only thing I could say negative about this place (and it is really nit picking) is I found the furniture to be a little old and worn. Understandably it is Victorian style furniture, but at least to me it could use some updating.

I highly recommend staying at the Grand America when staying in Salt Lake City if you are looking for 5 star experience...you are sure to get it here!!

The Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake City is an extraordinary place to stay in Salt Lake CIty. The hotel has 24 floors and can be seen from many places of the city. The interior of the hotel is elegant and makes you comfortable from the first moment of your stay. The hotel staff is really perfect. The reception during the check-in was informative and very friendly. The receptionist explained the amenities of the hotel and answered all questions perfectly. The concierge was very helpful. I had to change my oil engine by my rental car. He helped me to find the nearest garage and the shortest service thereby not to loose much time during our holidays. The recommendations for dinner were excellent.
We also take the breakfast in the hotel - one time in the lobby and one time in the garden cafe. Both locations fulfilled our expectations. The breakfast buffet in the garden cafe was excellent with a wide variety of warm and cold dishes.
The amenities of the hotel are in excellent conditions. There is an indoor and a big outdoor pool. Towels are on the pool side and a service at the pool is available. The fitness center has a wide variety of different fitness machines. Everybody will find an appropriate fitness equipment.
we had booked a suite with a king size bed. The suite was divided into a living and a sleeping room. It was equipped with a separate bath room including a shower and a bath.
The room service especially the turn down service in the evening was perfect.
Overall the Grand America is really the best hotel in Salt Lake City.

You have got to stay here at least once. The rooms are amazing. The staff was so helpful. This was our second time at the Grand America, and we can't wait to go back! You have to eat at the Garden Cafe, it is in the hotel.

Ok. I haven't stayed there but my boyfriend said that it was better than the Plaza. This is a really first class hotel. The staff is warm and helpful and the place is gorgeous! We got to the hotel at 10:00 a.m. even though check in time isn't until the afternoon. The receptionist said, "no problem" when we asked to check in so early although they didn't have a room with a king size bed. We were willing to take two queens. The room was beautifully appointed and huge. I can't think of anything we could have asked for. We spent some time at the pool which was great--not too crowded and the temperature was perfect. This morning we had a deluxe Continental breakfast in the lobby location where they serve tea later in the day. The price was good (perhaps $12 or $13) and it was enough for two meals for me. Definitely treat yourself. You won't regret it.

Room Tip: Hard to imagine that there are bad rooms in this hotel--only great and excellent.

The service was amazing! I travel a lot and this is one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever seen or stayed in. The marble appointments in the bathroom are quite a nice touch and if you are not careful, you may want to decorate a room in your house like the hotel room! :)

Room Tip: Mountain View side
