I was crushed when I learned the original Evergreen House was closing - there's no cuisine like it anywhere else I've been or found (including NYC). And that's even though the new Ethiopian place that's moved into the location between 7th and 8th South on State is also very nice.
Happily though, the Evergreen recipe book and name has been transferred a few blocks down State Street (on the west side - 1084 S I think) to share space in a Chinese restaurant that also offers a "Regular" Chinese menu.
The dishes have changed just a bit - for better and not so better in different cases - but still great. Also the best veggie-based meat substitutes around.
Go! Support it! Eat healthily, deliciously and cheaply!
Hint: Order a dish to take home as you leave. The portions are enormous!!
