Owner description: Abravanel Hall first opened in September 1979, and was originally known as Symphony Hall, but was renamed in May 1993 for Maurice Abravanel, conductor of the Utah Symphony. The building was designed by FFKR Architects and acoustical design services were provided by Dr. Cyril M. Harris with the outcome of creating an environment of acoustic excellence. The hall is rectangular in shape, similar to some of the world’s finest symphony halls. Suspended from the ceiling are six brass chandeliers with 18,000 hand-cut beads and prisms of Bohemian crystals imported from Austria and Czechoslovakia. The lobby is four stories high with a white oak and brass ceiling and a glass wall covering the East face of the lobby. The lobby itself is an architectural marvel due to its many tiers, the staircase that goes upwards with gold leafing that covers all visible sides of the stairs and balconies, and the 30-foot-high Olympic Tower red blown-glass sculpture by renowned glass artist Dale Chihuly.

I graduated from high school in this building and have only been back for symphonies, but have attended many of these over the years. The acoustics are very good. The foyer (lobby) is comfortable. I suggest not sitting in the first five or so rows, as you will not have as good of a view of the band or orchestra.

We have attended several events here from concerts to seminars. The building is beautiful and clean. It seems there is not a bad seat in the house! The staff are friendly and helpful.

Love the music and the glass sculpture. Our flight was delayed 6 hours so we decided to go to Symphony. We had already turned in the rental car and our luggage. They were very nice and we all wore jeans (makes me sad). Great coat check for our carry-ons. Easy to get from airport to downtown on train. I liked the facility better than Kennedy Center in DC, but only one theater.

We saw Mannheim Steamroller here 12/26. Second time we have seen them, and while I won't comment on the actual concert here (not that it wasn't great, just not relevant to the review) I think Abravanel Hall was wonderful. For past concerts & musicals in our home state, we have purchased last minute tickets and been disappointed with the view, but looking around the hall here I don't think there were any bad seats.
We were worried about parking so we parked at a Trax station near our home & rode it downtown, dropped us off right in front of the hall. For any future visits to Abravanel Hall, we will definitely take Trax again, certainly worth looking into for anyone else not familiar with parking downtown.

First off, this building is quite an architectural feat. There are no microphones because the acoustics are simply amazing! We've been here a few times and I can say that every single concert we have attended has been absolutely amazing! Great experience every time!
