Salt Lake Plaza Hotel
Ranked #16 of 75 Hotels in Salt Lake City
Reviewed 22 February 2014

My husband and I spent a couple of nights in Salt Lake City in August. We found this hotel by using Tripadvisor and couldn't have been happier. We met a very nice young man and woman at the front desk, who wanted to know where we were from and why were visiting Salt Lake City. They gave us a map of the city, and showed us 4-5 restaurants to try and things that we should do while in their city. After that, they surprised us by upgrading us to the Penthouse Suite! It was beautiful with a gorgeous view. We were right next door to Temple Square and walked everywhere, so the location was fantastic! Thank you Plaza hotel for making our short visit so sweet, and thank you Tripadvisor for giving us the opportunity to read what viewers have to say in order to pick the best hotel for us!

The location is superb, being right at the Temple Square and very well connected by public transport too. Many worth-seeing places and shopping and eating joints are within walk-able distance. Upper floors have good views.

Room Tip: Rooms on upper floors have good views

Dear ashisdutta,
Thank you for your comments. You are right that our location is "superb"! Not to mention we have a very knowledgeable front desk and bell staff who can point you in the right direction of any activity or restaurant your heart desires!
I like to think we have some of the best views of the valley in town. Our south facing rooms gives an excellent view of the entire Salt Lake valley, while our north facing rooms have a stunning view of the mountains and Utah State capitol building.
We hope to see you next time you are in town!

Dear Pamela L,
Thank you for your comments. It's always great to hear from our genealogy guests. It makes it so convenient that we are located just steps away from the one of the largest genealogical libraries, because it gives you that much more time to be able to search for those ancestors!
You are right that our rooms 10th floor and above have been recently remodeled! I am also happy to say, that starting in April, they will begin the second stage of our remodel!
As always, we appreciate you and your kind words about our hotel. We hope to see you next time you and your group make their way to SLC!

The Plaza is literally next door to the Family History Library, across one street from Temple Square (Mormon Tabernacle, Temple, etc.) and across another street from the Salt Palace (conventions). Accommodations were great, employees were friendly and helpful. Free shuttle to and from airport (the only hotel in town that does this!). Work out room (treadmill, stationary bike, elliptical), hot tub, outdoor pool in warm weather, convenience store/gift shop, JB's restaurant (which also provides room service). If I ever visit Salt Lake City again, this will definitely be my place to stay.

Room Tip: I was on the south side, 12th floor, corner room (1219). Loved the views from the balcony! Quiet.

Check in was a breeze and all the employees were super nice. We stayed in a room that has been renovated and it was great. The bed was comfortable, the room was very clean and our whole stay was quiet and cozy. The restaurant had great food and we were within walking distance of everything we wanted to do in Salt Lake. I would definitely recommend staying at the Salt Lake Plaza.

Room Tip: We had a room on the 12th floor at the end of the hall and it was quiet as could be.

I had two stays at the Salt Lake Plaza Hotel within two weeks recently. I have stayed at this hotel several times in the past and although not a 4-star hotel it is very good. Many of the rooms have been renovated since my last stay and I must say that it is a very good update. The renovated rooms are modern in apprearance. The rooms are very clean, the beds are comfortable and the rooms quiet. The rooms have WiFi that I found to be plenty fast and usable. You don't have to use a password to get on to the hotel WiFi.

They haven't gotten around to remodeling the lobby yet but is is functional and clean. They have two computers and a printer set up in the business center. Although they are slow, they are functional for simple tasks like printing your airline boarding passes or browsing the web.

On my next visit, there was a genealogy convention in town so all the rooms were booked but they let me have the "honeymoon" suite at the regular room price. Don't get excited, this was a 1 bedroom suite that was definitely 1970's in style. It didn't appear to be used much but it was clean. My wife and I joked that it should have an age limit for renting this room. It doesn't have a separate shower, but the shower is in the giant jacuzzi tub. Getting into the high-sided tub to take a shower is something best left to 20-somethings for the required physical agility. Hopefully this is a room that is coming up soon on their renovation list.

You can't beat the price here for a convenient downtown hotel and the location couldn't be better. Book a stay, you won't be disappointed.

Our family of five spent a fantastic night here on a trip to SLC to see the Utah Jazz play. Hotel is within 5 min walk of the sports complex so you can walk to the game and leave the car parked at the hotel. (5 star plus right there!!) Beds were very comfortable and the entire stay was without a complaint. Enjoyed the fact that its literally next door to temple square and we were able to walk the 5 minutes to see the "Spoken Word" at the old tabernacle. Location is what makes this place great. Only advice I would give out. The restaurant next door (JB's) is actually quite tasty in regards to food for the price, but the service was and has always been questionable every time I've eaten there which is at least 10-12 times. Guess I'm just a sucker for a good Club sandwich and a cheap salad bar. There are several really good places to eat nearby if you don't mind a short walk. Definitely would stay there again.
