While not flashy or glitzy, the Carlton Hotel was a wonderful homey comfortable place with a excellent location. The staff behind the desk were friendly, helpful and welcoming, even to the guests who show up at 3 am to check in. When we got to the room it was BIG, clean and smelled fresh, complete with a kitchen, full cabel and internet. The breakfast was made to order from a menue, not sitting in a warming tray, and very good. I will definitely stay at The Carlton on my next trip to SLC!

I found this quaint little hotel when searching for a place to stay on our way from Las Vegas to Yellowstone. The location was perfect, and the gentleman behind the desk was wonderful. In fact, we were upgraded to a suite with a kitchenette, which was greatly appreciated! I might suggest that travelers turn the air on high before retiring for the evening as the room became quite warm overnight. Otherwise, the stay was quite comfortable. Oh, and breakfast was amazing--it resembled an old-fashioned diner, complete with a slightly rude waitress. This is one hotel I plan to visit again!

The staff is always helpful and the hotel has lovely warm vintage touches. I loved the roomy two bedroom suite with two queen size beds, the updated kitchenette which made cooking meals quite doable, and the clean and updated bathroom. It's also quiet and they offer free made-to-order breakfasts and shuttle service to the airport and around town for a gratuity. I'm planning on coming back again next year!

Because of problems with our luggage we had to spend an extra two nights in this small and extremely friendly hotel. All of the staff went out of their way to be of assisstance and we can't thank them enough.
The room we had was enormous with two queen sized beds, a kitchenette and bathroom. There was a TV and phone in the room and internet was freely available in the lobby. On top of this was a free cooked breakfast which was excellent.
The hotel is within walking distance of the City Creek shopping mall and within 1 1/2 blocks of the Temple area

Great location for any person with reason to be in downtown SLC of course especially Temple Square and other LDS sites. Neighborhood is fine, not run down or bums bothering you on the street. The size of the very clean room I stayed in was modest about the same as a Comfort Inn but not the corporate sterility of the chain motels. The Carlton Hotel is with the last of the independents so spend your money there. Included cooked to order breakfast was great. Staff very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.

The hotel is Nice and Clean but it is very basic. We stayed in the suite, rm 116. It was a king bed, tv, a little kitchenette with refrig and microwave and sink. The bathroom was little and you have to step up into the bathroom, but it was really clean. The people and everything was nice and simple. I do agree with others that it feels like a step back in time to an old ma and pa 1960's hotel with modern amenidities.
The location is great. A 1 1/2 blocks from the TRAX (light rail train) which is free in the downtown area. Close to Temple Square and Creek Center shopping plaza is 1/2 block away.

This hotel is conveniently located near Temple Square, and within walking distance of many sites and the lovely gardens and grounds associated with the Temple. It is also close to public transportation. Because the hotel isn't part of a chain, it has character and the staff take personal interest in insuring a comfortable stay and in answering any questions that guests might have.
