“Great location for the Salt Palace and downtown, but”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 June 2012

Great location for the Salt Palace and downtown, but if you want to sleep past 9am forget about it. Jack-hammer above my room pounded me awake at 9am after a nice evening on the town. Kinda cancelled the whole experience out. In fairnexx they do warn you...and then charge you full price. Very nice staff and great maid service. The self-park is $10 a day, but if you put it on your bill it is $13 a day. Go figure.

Room Tip: Wait until the renovations are over to stay here..

This is a nice hotel, going through a $10M remodel in 2012. The rooms were clean but a little small. The front desk staff is nice but not over-the-top accommodating. Room service is attrociously expensive ($12.25 for a single Corona + tip). My biggest ding for this hotel - no free wi-fi! Seriously, I have travelled to two-horse towns in rural America and not had to pay $9.99/day for wireless internet.

Clean and nice accomodations within one block of the Salt Palace. Very easy walk to lots of good food, shopping and events. You can walk to the Mormon Temple and Visitor Center from here, but it's a little further away. We also walked to the arena to watch the Salt Lake Blaze arena football team. Easy walk, but a ways away.

The pool was quite cold, so plan to either swim in the chill or stay in the hot tub.

Room Tip: Request a room floors above or below the construction. It wasn't disruptive for us, but who kno...

The hotel is nice and has computers with free internet on both the first and second floors. We were here with a group and were surprised to have 2 double beds in our room...not 2 queen.

Room Tip: Make sure you request a queen if you need it.

We stayed here as we knew the location was good and had a large suite. The service was very good for such a large hotel and they had a conference in progress which is usually distracting. The staff were very good, from the valets (free) and doorman to reception and cleaners.
However this hotel is due a MAJOR refurb, and it needs it!
The rooms were 1980's decor and things were broken such as light switches and toilet roll holders, in a king bed suite!! Not good. It felt old and tired and was old and tired, other reviews here say the same.
We noticed a poster in the lobby advertising the refurbishment ideas for this hotel as we were leaving, I hope they do this soon.
If it was't for the politeness and service we received this hotel would have only one star, we would not stay here again in its current condition but definitely would when its redone.

Room Tip: Don't bother until its redecorated, or make sure you get for under $100!

Dear istanbultrip059,
Thank you for your review and your compliments on our service. Yes indeed the renovation of all of the guest rooms, suites and corridors is well under way. We started in mid May and will be completed by end of August. We do hope you will consider us again on your future trips to Salt Lake City.

The best recommendation I could give to anyone who is considering this hotel is to look at the pictures I posted on 05 May 2012.

UPDATED: Trip Advisor said my pictures were not clear enough to post. That's strange considering the room lights and flash on my camera were on when I took the pictures and each time I show the pictures to someone they can CLEARLY see the filth. The rooms are worn and housekeeping is sub par at best. They have plans to renovate the rooms but if housekeeping does not clean the rooms, what's the point? Unfortunately this location does not live up to the Hilton brand.

Dear ucanrespond2me,
Thank you for your review. We appreciate the feedback and any specific recommendations to improve our housekeeping would be welcomed. While our cleanliness scores as graded by past guests via our guest satisfaction surveys provide positive feedback on our performance, I do realize that we always have opportunities for improvement, and undoubtedly opportunities to re enforce our cleanliness standards through re training. I would welcome a copy of your pictures or any specifics on your stay with us. The email address is SLC_hiltoninfo@hilton.com
