“Good location, nice staff”
Reviewed 5 November 2011

Stayed here for a conference; the organizers placed me here as it was the HQ hotel. The biggest plus was the hotel staff - all super friendly and helpful. Room was traditional Marriott room - bed comfortable, bathroom small but acceptable. My major issue was the workout room - 1 treadmill out of order, two had problems with the TV so that left just 2/5 that worked with TV. The hotel is very close to the convention center so that met my needs as I could go back and forth.

We stayed here as part of a wedding for two nights and had a great weekend rate. The hotel is a great shape and they were in the processes of painting the outside, but we did not find this disputive at all.

The rooms are a bit on the small side as well as the bathrooms but with good coordination we didn't find it to be a problem with 4 of us in the room. The beds are great, although they are doubles and not queens.

Higher up rooms will get you a great view of SLC, either direction. The pool area is nice with locker rooms that have a dry sauna and free lockers in them. Room service was prompt but we did not eat in any of the restaurants.

When the City Creek shopping area is done this hotel will be in a prime location. It is also only one block from Temple Square and the light rail stop. The Convention Center is right across the street.

You do have to pay for parking, but it is easy and convienent.

This is a great downtown SLC hotel.

Room Tip: Upper floor will give you a great view of SLC.

Stayed here for a wedding. Spacious room, sparkling clean and modern bathroom with no signs of wear. Very comfortable king-size bed with lots of pillows and down comforter. Had a very reasonable wedding guest room price. Only minor complaint was paying for parking in the hotel's underground garage and paying for an Internet connection, but front desk was very nice to drop the charge when we complained.Convenient to walk to downtown restaurants and other sights.

This trip to Salt Lake, we stayed two nights at the Marriott Salt Lake City Downtown Hotel. The hotel is very nice and virtually every staff member we ran into asked us if we were ok or if we needed anything. We did ask the desk staff several different questions about where things were located in the city and they always knew the answers.. On our way to check out, the parking attendant even asked us if we needed any directions? What a nice gesture!
We stayed on the 10th floor overlooking the Salt Lake Temple. What a view!!! There was not anything about our stay that went wrong.
During General Conference the hotel makes up sack lunches of different varieties of sandwiches for $8. This was very convenient for grabbing lunch between sessions. This hotel is very convenient to several shopping areas particularly The Gateway which is an open air mall. It has the usual chain store clothing stores and some food chain restaurants.
If you don't want to pay the higher prices for breakfast, then you have to venture out into the city.

We stayed here for 5 nights because we were married across the street at Cafe Molise. We had repeated issues, and the only reason this hotel is not getting the lowest rating of 1 out of 5 is that when we brought issues to the management's attention, they always attempted to resolve the issue or gave us Marriott points to compensate us. It was a huge inconvenience to have to deal with repeated problems while getting ready for our wedding.

One of our pillows had a large stain of what looked like blood on it. One room had someones long hair all over it- like a haircut was given right before we got there.. One of our toilettes didn't work when we got there. Our TV remote was broken.

The problems started when we reserved a block of rooms for our wedding guests. We started to receive feedback from many of our guests that when they called, the hotel could not find the block of rooms, and the people they reached on the phone at the hotel were rude to them. 3 different groups of our guests got so frustrated that they booked rooms at the Hilton instead- they made the right decision.

One of our guests paid cash for the room upon checkout, and their card was charged too. This in itself is not uncommon, but the staff told them that they had not received any cash, and that the charge would stand. We had to request that they pull the security tapes. The issue was finally resolved after 4 days of repeated phone calls by my wife.

One morning we were woken at 7 AM by the loudest noises imaginable- the demolition of the bathroom in the room right next door using a mini jack hammer, and sledge hammers- I know because I went into that room to see what could possibly cause such loud noises. The hotel moved us to a suite, which was much nicer. Throughout our stay, there was constant noise from workers on ropes grinding down the exterior of the building.

Overall the rooms were nice, and what you would expect of a Marriott. The price was very reasonable. The location is excellent- right downtown across from the Salt Palace. The light rail is 1 block away on Main St, and there are many restaurants right near the hotel. The beds and bedding are comfortable, it was just the noise that effected our sleep. The room cleanliness was a big disappointment with the hair and blood issues. The hotel bar was nice, and had a good selection. The service level was all over the charts- some people were very nice and helpful, while others were rude, and unwilling to help us.

If it weren't for the problems and rude staff, this hotel would have been nice.

Stayed two nights here whilst on a tour. It is very close to Temple Square, if you are interested in a free guided tour and also even closer to a tram stop, which will take you up - towards the Capitol building , or down, to a shopping mall. The hotel is comfortable and clean, with a small bar area. Breakfast had good choices. Pool and saunas were good.
I would stay here again, were I to visit SLC, which is unlikely!

All the quality expected in a major city Marriott property, plus the asset of location directly across the street from the Salt Palace convention center and adjoining the forthcoming new city center shopping/dining complex. We stayed on the concierge floor and enjoyed the concierge lounge with truly hot entre breakfasts, guest computer station, drinks and snacks, and knowledgable staff. Especially liked our room's up to date station for recharging equipment and playing MP3 music. Although more expensive than other national branded hotels in the neighborhood, it was an excellent value.. Did miss phone calls because front desk didn't inform us that multiple rooms under one payer required an extra step for us to receive phone calls under our own names. Nonetheless, I'll plan future leisure trips to Salt Lake City based on when this property can offer value prices, just so I can stay there again.

Room Tip: concierge floor offerred good services, food, lounge, computer station.
