“Great Location, Great Hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 April 2008

We had a room on the top floor due to an upgrade. We also had a bottle of champagne. Our bed was super comfy. The executive lounge was wonderful and the staff was excellent.
The only bad was the construction next door that started at 7 am each morning, but the location was close to tons of restaurants and bars within walking distance.
Great lobby and I even took my kids to the pool which was above average with their gardens and skylights.

I picked this hotel by mistake because I was thinking it was the other Marriott Downtown. I 've stayed there before and it was a newer updated hotel, but this one was the older version or something.

It wasn't bad, but felt old. Things just felt old and worn and like I said I was bummed because I had picked the wrong Marriott hotel.

This hotel is right in front of the Mormon temple and from my room you could see it, but there was a new building being constructed during this time. Te work was just getting underway and starting from the bottom. I do not recall what was being built right next to this hotel, but you had your typical noise in the morning and I'm sure through out the day but was not there during typical business hours.

This location is not bad, as mentioned it is by the Temple, the Family Search Library, the Salt Palace and plenty of other things such as the light rail is not too far from here and plenty to walk around near by to eat, see and enjoy.

The only problem I and my co-worker came across is that we stopped in to check in, telling the valet that we'd be right back to go out and eat and as we came back out, 10 minutes later the car was gone and valet wasn't sure where it had gone. Luckily a young guy was just coming up the ramp and he had taken it down for us to park. Parking is not cheap, but they offer the full day in and out pass.

We booked on priceline and got the marriott. How perfect is that? Mormon town and staying in a mormon owned hotel. The hotel was great nothing extraordinary but definitely would stay here again.

Stayed here for a meeting & was overall well-pleased. Standout feature was a uniformly helpful & courteous staff. Excellent gym & pool. Internet worked well & the $9.95 daily fee also covered local & long-distance calls, a relative bargain. Very close to the Salt Palace & other attractions. Clean & reasonably quiet. Will stay again on my next trip.

I stayed here in February 2008 to attend the SME Mining conference. The hotel is directly across from the Salt Palace and therefore the most convenient! I only wish it was directly connected (tunnel or skywalk) so that weather would not affect my clothes during the conference. In fact that has to be my number 1 pet peeve so long as I have been traveling for work...hotels that are not directly attached to the convention center when they are listed as "the convention center hotel." The only places this has not been an issue is Minneapolis and Cincinatti (where many buildings and hotels are connected by skywalks.

The Marriott has a full Starbucks which is very nice and I visited almost every day! The breakfast buffett on Saturday was a good deal for fresh fruit and juice etc.

Housekeeping and other staff was friendly (always said "hi" in the halls. My room cleaning was a bit spotty - always came at different times. TV choices were poor, standard tube set in room. The iron was clean and worked which is another must for the business traveler!

Some noise from the street and there is a major construction project going on in Downtown Salt Lake so there was noise from that and mud all over the street!

I would return for the ease of transit to the convention center, however, if I was coming to town for pleasure, I may stay elsewhere.

My wife and I recently stayed at the SLC downtown Marriott. We stayed at this hotel in January before the 2002 Olympics as well. Although the rooms are the typical Marriott rooms, we could tell that they have become a bit dated. If you like the standard Marriott rooms, you will be fine staying here.

The best thing about the hotel is the location. You can stay here and drive to almost every ski resort in 30 minutes. We drove to Park City three days in a row in no time at all. Be aware that parking is $12-14 a day.

There is a decent restaurant (with fireplace) in the hotel (Elevations) as well as a full-blown Starbucks (be aware that it closes around 6 PM).

The area around the hotel is great. The convention center is across the street, the Utah Jazz arena is two blocks away and the Gateway (SLC's best outdoor mall) is three blocks away. Therefore, you could literally stay here and enjoy downtown without a car.

As for local restaurants, we ate a block away at the Mexican restaurant, Blue Iguana (sister restaurant of Red Iguana) and were very happy. If you are looking for a few different restuarants, I would recommend driving to either Log Haven or La Caille. Although they are a bit more expensive than your average restaurant, they are definitely worth the experience.

Enjoy your stay at the Marriott as SLC is the best little-big city in the the US.

Was in SLC for 6 days for a conference. Great location, directly across the street from the Salt Palace. We had a room with balcony overlooking the construction. We actually liked watching the construction and since we are early risers the noise did not bother us. Plus, we had a great view of Temple Square from our balcony. We were on a concierge floor which gave us access to the lounge and free breakfast, beverages and snacks. Very handy. The beds were comfy, everything was clean and well cared for. Would definately stay again if in SLC.
