“Roach hotel”
Reviewed 18 January 2010

Would not recommend this hotel. The 1st room we were in had dead ants in the bathtub and on the windowsill. The 2nd room had cobwebs with tiny spiders in the corner behind the table. There was also a (dead?) roach there.
Our tv remote didn't work. Our key didn't work, but maintenance
repaired it promptly. There are better places to stay in Corpus!

The Quality Inn & Suites on the Beach in Corpus Christi provided a wonderful atmosphere for our much needed vacation. Although the room we were in was an older part of the facility, we had a bayview room with a balcony provides a close and clear view of the Gulf. The price was great, also, and with Quality Inn's affiliation with Choice Privileges, provides quality at great value. The room was clean, well appointed, and comfortable. The door to the balcony was a bit swollen from the sea moisture, but closed well and gave us a feeling of protection. Good breakfast provided, very clean swimming pool, and supurb access within walking distance to the Lexington, Texas Aquarium, Texas Art Museum and the Texas Museum of Science and History. A great "Go To" place.

I read a the reviews and decided to stay here. I can except the part that it is tired as the reviews said. It was low cost for Corpus. I accepted the part that I booked 2 rooms and there was no towels and blanket in one and the other had one light burned out and the doors did not shut properly. What I cannot tolerate is rude people at the front desk. On the first morning we left our room to have breakfast at 6:45. We had to wait in line for waffles while people made 5 waffles for their family. that's ok still not unhappy. But upon returning to our room at 7:15 we could not get in. This happens get a new key at front desk. We did and it did not still work. At the front desk we went asking for a maintenance to get us back into our room. The front desk clerk just kept suffling papers with no eye contact or verbal acknoledgement. We asked again with the same result. Finally my husband raised his voice and a respose came forth. You do not need to be rude and yell. He said can't you at least acknwledge me? She then said she was working on it but there was no maintenance and we would have to wait to 9:00 for someone to come in. We said that there was someone at the pool. We were told they were busy and we had to wait til 9 am. The maid over hearing the conversation went out the door . I followed her and she went to the pool man and told him of the problem. I told him I was the one asked for help and he said he would take care of it. Give him a few minutes. He came back with a key and got us back into our room. I must say the help is great. Why could the maid not be trusted with the key in the first place. The management is very poor at this establishment. If it can ruin your time to be on a vacation or escape weekend do not trust this place. The Omni or Radisson gives better service.

The room was small but clean. We had what they call the courtyard view. We had a balcony that overlooked the pool area and we could see the ocean beyond it. It was a good view. The pool is nice and well kept. The hotel overall was a little bit run down, our balcony door vibrated in the wind, but I would stay here again. It exceeded expectations at $89 a night.
Breakfast is free, but it's waffles and pastries and cereal. If you want a hot breakfast, Mama Sitas is in walking distance. Check in time is late - 4pm. But the Lexington and the aquarium are extremely close to the hotel. You can walk down and do the touristy stuff.
The Beach - I stayed here because I wanted a beach front hotel and couldn't afford to stay on North Padre Island or Mustang Island. The beach is right outside the hotel, but it's a very rocky coarse beach. If you want the soft sandy gorgeous beaches, you will have to drive to them. Luckily the two islands are only a short drive away. We were able to drive or walk to anywhere we wanted to go quickly and the beach outside of the hotel was not crowded during the weekday mornings and we were able to lay outside on the sand and listen to the waves and relax.
If you want the nicer white sand beaches right outside of your hotel room, this isn't the hotel you want. But, if you want a decent hotel at under $100 on the beach, I can recommend the Quality Inn.

My partner and I went for a long vacation weekend on the 4th.

In general I can simply say all of my expectations were exceeded.

Staff- ever present and very helpful with info and items
Room- clean, excellent dark shades, all the modern amenities, fabulous view (over half the rooms have small balconies and great views)
Service- consistently great, linens refreshed regularly
Location- could not be better, both for beach access and town access
Pool- deep and relaxing, many shade benches and lounges
Hot tub- warm and always accessible

As it was a busy weekend, parking was crowded, but they had people consistently checking wrist bands and car tags the entire time.

I would stay here a hundred times over and encourage everyone to give this a shot. The ability to walk from a great breakfast to a deep pool to the ocean with a fabulous view of the Lexington and downtown Corpus and back again is amazing.

We did not bring pets, but saw lots of dogs, definitely welcome!

My sole complaint were the screaming, running, splashing, falling (which led to more screaming) kids and the dozing parents who took no interest whatsoever in actually being responsible for their kids.

when this facility promotes itself as "on the beach", they are not foolin' around...the back of the property is **RIGHT** on Corpus Christi Bay's beach - overall, the facility was clean & well-maintained - exterior is showing its age a little, but we by no means felt that we were staying in a dump - the furnishings in our room (pool view) were a little dated, but adequate - staff were extremely friendly and helpful - pool was **LARGE** and deep (8 feet) - use of the pool is monitored closely by the staff (registered guests get bracelets to wear during stay -- if you are found in the pool without a bracelet, you are asked to get out) - breakfast was toast, bagels, cereals, juices, hard-boiled eggs, fruit and waffles - facility is within walking distance of both the Lexington and the Texas State Aquarium - CONS: (1) parking is tight, so late arrivals may have difficulty finding a spot to park (parking is monitored closely through the use of passes) (2) breakfast area is pretty cramped and food was in short supply towards the end of breakfast hours

I just read many of the other reviews and they aren't for the most part too positive. We were in San Antonio on vacation (stayed on the river, paid quite a bit more for our room and it's beds were better--plush, like our own beds--but other than that...not that great) and decided we weren't ready to go home, looked at the map and picked Corpus Christi. We had NO idea where we were going to stay, etc. We got there, saw a billboard for the Radisson and this hotel. We checked out the Radisson first and had a choice of 3 rooms. The prices ranged from $130-170 a night. We were technically done with our vacation so weren't looking to spend a bunch more and not knowing what we were going to do during the day, we decided to check out this hotel before deciding. For some reason, we went with it and paid $100 a night plus tax of course.

For $100 a night...we got all we paid for. Our favorite things about this hotel: the location to the beach...we walked out our backdoor, past the pool and onto the beach. We hunted for shells in the middle of the night and felt completely safe! (Something we cannot say for San Antonio and the riverwalk...bums all over!) It was super quiet and serene. We spent the day on the beach and it's so convenient....no riding in the car and getting sand all over...just a lil' walk. They have a shower by the pool which is nice. The pool is pretty and was clean. It's large as well. The kiddie pool is neat but the filter in it wasn't working so it was clear but had a few leaves & a couple bugs in it...not a big deal though. It's also open until 11 PM which is nice. We planned to use the hot tub but stayed too busy, never got to that. It is in an out of the way place but we liked that....not too crowded during the day on the beach, lots of room for our girls to explore, run all over. There are shops down the beach a block or so that sell just about everything you could need on the beach if you forget something which is great. We didn't eat at the few places on Corpus Christi beach so not sure about them. Our second day there...we drove down to Padre Island, South Padre, etc. It wasn't that far and was fun to see. We needed extra towels...asked and got them right away from a very friendly lady....asking if we needed anything else. When we decided to stay another night...super friendly and helpful...no problems.

NOW, our cons. The double bed rooms...the beds are full size, not queen but we weren't told they were queen and I looked on the website and they never say they are queen. AND unfortunately the beds are not comfortable. The room was clean, no bugs (there was a man spraying bug spray all over when we were checking out) and I would have noticed...I HATE bugs and am constantly on the look out for them, anywhere. I'm almost OCD about cleanliness so was it as clean as my own home, of course not, but it wasn't dirty. It does seem old and a little worn but they've done some updating it appears. I wouldn't go to Corpus Christi for shopping....it is a city that's spread out and we drove half-way across the city to find one of their 5 Wal-marts for some beach toys for the girls. It was not a supercenter which we needed because we wanted a few groceries. They have one but not being familiar with the city, we just picked one and didn't pick that one. We stopped at an H-E-B on Padre Island Drive and it took forever to check out and wasn't a nice grocery store.

OVERALL: If you want a great view, great access to the beach and want to spend quality time on the beach with your family and not be over run with crowds or break your bank...it is a great place to stay!! It isn't anything close to what we have in our own home but we don't expect that when we go on vacation because we don't want to nor ever plan to just go somewhere to hang out in the hotel room. We will most likely stay at this hotel when we visit Corpus Christi again.

(The Radisson next door looked very nice and has a restaurant with great views....if you don't mind paying more and don't mind not having outdoor access to the beach (it is 5 or 6 stories high with all inside access)...it might be a better option if you plan to spend much time in your room. Otherwise, go with Quality Inn and Suites. I forgot to mention...our room looked exactly like the pictures they show on their website.)
