Great place to get out into the local wildlife scene, get some exercise, and learn a lot about trees, birds, butterflies, and area mammals. Best to go in the morning when wildlife is hopping. The tram starts at 8:30 W-Su; you can get off to hike and be picked up later. Lots of opportunities for biking (rentals available) and other activities - even yoga. A relatively new park, growing nicely.

What a pleasant way to enjoy an afternoon, whether your in to birds, bugs, butterflies or just enjoying nature. We took the tram ride and learned as we rode and than off to the trails to see what we could find on our own. Green Jay, Kingfisher, Killdeer,Mississippi Kite defending her nest from a raptor. A beetle & Mexican Blue wing Butterfly

Texas Parks and Wildlife guide makes the hiking fun by pointing out all of the different animal encounters. Has a nice trail with Resaca views. They usually have different activities throughout the year posted on their website. I enjoy this place whenever we can go and has fairly inexpensive admission. A+

My first visit to this 1200 acre State Park and World Birding Center site was on April 12, 2013, but it will not be my last. I would say this park is mainly for birders as there is no camping or food available. A guided tram ride is available and included in the price of admission or bicycles can be rented. Vehicles are not permitted beyond the Visitor Center. I opted for the tram ride and could not have been more pleased. The tram goes hourly on the half hour. I was the only guest at the time so I had a private tour.
The guide spotted a total of 28 birds which he pointed out and stopped so I could photograph and enjoy. Among the birds we saw were American wigeon, northern harrier, crested caracara, and Carolina wren. We also saw an Altamira oriole nest.
Part of the fun was not knowing what the next curve or next habitat would reveal.
