My wife and I (from Boston) were planning to visit friends in Albuquerque during the 2009 Balloon Fiesta -- and so we made reservations with this company 6 months in advance for a ride for 4 of us to take place in the middle of the week of the Fiesta so we could see the hundreds of other ballons that were lifting off at the same time -- though 5 miles away. The week and the day came and we were literally at the designated "meeting place" at 6:00 a.m. awaiting the arrival of the crew from Sweet Escapes when they called to cancel due to anticipated high winds. They offered to take us up 3 days later -- the last day of the Fiesta -- and we accepted, and so instead we spent that morning at the Balloon Fiesta and saw several hundred other balloons have no problem taking flight that morning in the "high winds" that Sweet Escapes described. The next day we received a call from Sweet Escapes telling us they had a "conflict" with the date they had rescheduled us for and would knock a $40 per person off the cost of our flights if we could go up 2 days later -- no longer during the Balloon Fiesta (and so no longer with a view of hundreds of other ballons), but what could we do but accept their proposal aternative? So on the newly rescheduled day (our last in Albuquerque) were we once again literally at the designated "meeting place" at 6:00 a.m. awaiting the arrival of the crew from Sweet Escapes when they once again called to cancel due to anticipated "bad weather." As it turned out there was a 10% chance of rain and it never did rain that morning. I can understand exercising caution, but given what turned out to be the ACTUAL weather conditions on both of the days that they cancelled it was our sincere sense (shared by our local friends who have been ballooning many timess with multiple different companies in Albququerque) that we were bumped on the last two occasions because Sweet Escapes moved larger parties of people into our appointment slot and/or were not able to partner our party of 4 people up with other parties of 4 to fill their desired capacity. So they cancelled rather than meet their obligation to us for a dollar amount less than they would optimally want to receive for a flight. Don't let their low price entice you -- for in this case you truly get what you pay for -- which in our case was an extremely disappointing nothing.
