“Fantastically Restored Cultural Gem”
Review of KiMo Theatre

While in Albuquerque, you owe it to yourself to visit this theater at least once. It has been around since 1927, and is a cultural landmark. It has survived the wrecking ball to stand around and anchor this stretch of Central. Interesting design motif inside and out, please note that the swastikas do not imply Nazi connections (seriously).

Participating on 48 Hour Film Project teams each year, I end up visiting the KiMo annually for the screenings. It's clean, has a good sound system & screen, and good seating. The only thing it lacks, being downtown, is decent parking (everywhere is pay parking/structures and there is no ticket validation)

The glowing red eyes in the skulls along the stage/screen are in interesting touch tho.

What a place, not to be missed for any event. In fact, the atmospheric theater is enough reason to go. The sound system and seating are excellent. There is not a bad seat in the theater.

Vintage setting for many venues. I often go to see a filmed ballet or opera. Many unusual offerings, lovely theater, interesting crowd. May purchase drinks and snacks at intermission.

The Kimo theater is one of the jewels of Albuquerque. It is a small , intimate, historic theater with a wonderful Southwestern motif. This theater had it's hey day in the late 20's and '30s. It was restored several years ago and subsequent renovations have made it a top notch place to see live performances. The City of Albuquerque presents a variety of films and other shows. There is hardly a bad seat in the house. If you have never been, go a little early so you will have time to walk around and enjoy the building itself.
