“Dingy, Grubby and Disappointing”
Reviewed 4 September 2014

We arrived at this hotel and looking from the outside was disappointing........like going back to the 60's. Inside the Reception was dark and dingy but the staff were helpful. A maid had to help us with heavy bags as the lift only went so far then we had to carry down stairs and along corridor to our room. The room was awful, smelt of smoke, in desperate need of updating, grimy and dingy, not welcoming at all. We then had to change rooms as we had asked for a double room and this was a twin. Once again they sent the maid to help us move rooms with our baggage. The next room was just as grimy and dingy. The bed sheets were grey and torn but seemed clean. Furniture old and worn. There was a maid service everyday and room was cleaned well and towels changed regularly although we went out and brought our own.

After three days, the air conditioning started leaking water all over the floor and had to strategically place receptacles around the floor until maintenance tried to fix it. They tried twice more before my partner fixed it himself. Maintenance men did try but failed.

Room had a mini kitchen and fridge leaked and microwave smelt of old food.

Breakfast was included but don't bother - we ate out. Positioned in large bar area, minimal choice and mouldy black bananas on breakfast bar. Sticky floor and full of local residents staying there that looked like the official homeless shelter..

Chose the hotel because it had an outside pool with loungers - when we checked, pool looked like it had been empty for years with half filled brown water and a pile of rusty loungers on the side and overlooked by Burger KIng. Inside pool was nice but too hot to stay indoors.

All the staff were pleasant, hotel in great need of updating and redecoration - best part of hotel was the secure underground parking for the car.

Room Tip: Rooms on the outside of the building are quieter than those inside.

For those who are attending activities at the EXPO, this hotel is really convenient. My family has been attending horse shows at the EXPO for the last year and is easy access to feed horses early and return to have coffee and made to order breakfast. There are two things you need to check before coming here. First is to make sure that the hotel has turned on the AC for the cooling season. They have a start and end date that may make your stay uncomfortablely hot. The second is to make sure you are aware of any large party events that may be happening during your stay. If there is a party event planned, make sure you ask for one of the "outside rooms" away from the atrium. There are rooms in these outer areas where any noise from the social event will be negligible.

Room Tip: Ask for a room far from the center atrium area. It will help you sleep better.

Hello! We thank you for taking the time to review the Barcelona Suites after your stay with us, we appreciate the comments. We do apologize that the event in the atrium caused an inconvenience to you. We do try to accommodate our guests when we do have events and place them in the rooms away from the atrium to ensure that they can rest well if the event goes on later in the evening. I will ensure to train the staff on this matter. Thanks!

The hotel is in need of refurbishing but it is clean. Breakfast is provided. Staff friendly and helpful. Perfect location for the Expo New Mexico where our event was held. It is an older hotel but great for the price.

We celebrated my birthday with a staycation at Barcelona. Check in was short sweet and polite. The room was clean. Although it was right by the ice machine, the room was incredibly quiet! Happily surprised by that one. The courtyard/ bar/breakfast area is lovely with all the tropical plants and trees. Once again we always enjoy the water so we really look for places with water amenities. The website offered two pools....one indoor and one outdoor. We looked forward to using both. We started in the indoor which was quite full with families namely small children, as is to be expected. We ventured to find the outdoor pool. The door was locked. The front desk person didn't know when it would be open or what was wrong with it. No apologies or explanation....she said she would "note it". So back to the kiddie pool area we go. The spa looked inviting. Looks are deceiving as it was temped at best.....just like our last visit. Overall, still a good value especially for families. The romantic getaway not so sure about. It does have clean spacious rooms with noticeable efforts to update, good location, secured parking, great party space in courtyard, and a friendly polite staff.

Room Tip: Very quiet rooms! Lots of space for the family trip. Good thermostats in the room.

Room Tip: The rooms were very nice and spacious. Our only meal at this hotel was breakfast. The restaurant w...

We stayed for two nights at this hotel in Albuquerque. It is dirty (we think there was blood on the light switch plate and chips and trash on the floor from a previous guest), outdated, and the rooms are sub standard. We had to ask the front desk for everything from a washcloth, to a coffee pot to lightbulbs because they were burned out in the bathroom (we actually moved out of the first room they gave us because there were no lamps that worked, the microwave was broken and no cable on that tv). They promised to send the items we requested up, but each time we had to visit the front desk to get them ourselves. The website promises an outdoor pool. We visited in mid June and it was 93 degrees outside. The pool was completely empty and the grounds had not been cleaned in a very long time. They told us the outdoor pool was 'seasonal'; my question to them was, "When does your pool season begin?" It is my thought it has not been filled or used for quite some time. The rooms they show on the website are nothing like the room that we got, in fact far from it. Don't know where this room is, but it would have been nice to get it. On the plus side, the location is nice and the room is a nice size. It is worth the price to go to another hotel. Pass this one by!
