“definitely a must”
Reviewed 28 September 2009

My friend and I stayed here and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owners were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the throw back rooms, complete with a ceiling fan, glass glasses, coffee mugs, serving tray (no plastic), 'grandmas' flowered sheets, etc. Would recommend this motel to anyone traveling through Albuquerque area. Within blocks of Olde Towne, take the train to Santa Fe.

There is nothing, nothing special about this old motel. It is just barely clean and the people who manage this place are the rudest, nastiest people we have ever had the unfortunate dealings with.
For about the same prices there are many better places in Albuquerque.

As judged by all other reviewers, we run a well-maintained, well-managed and super clean motel.
Combined with our hospitality, we offer unsurpassed historic old town location at a competitive price.

The Monterey Motel is a real hidden gem. Found it through TripAdvisor and was very happy with it. Small complex, very friendly owners, rooms nice and spottles clean (have seen much worse conditions in 5-star hotels in the US). I really enjoyed my stay there and will surely come back if my plans will ever again lead me to Albuquerque.

This is a nice motel that is very close to Old Town. If "Route 66" and well-maintained motel from that period hold a great deal of charm for you, this is the place. The room was clean and well-decorated, but the air conditioning unit was so loud, we needed to turn it off to sleep. We were in room 6, and some sort of machine in the next room turned on periodically, waking us up. For myself, I would would be happier in any old Holiday Inn Express.

We were driving across country on a mission, in a great hurry. After night after night of depressing Motel 6's and shabby family run motels, this one was a treat. Very comfy bed, nice touches in the rooms, laundry on site, pool, and a fantastically friendly and personal welcome and farewell from the cheerful owner. I have no idea how she managed to be so upbeat at both 11pm and 8am!
I wouldn't stay in another motel in Alburquerque now unless this was sold out.

We only stayed one night, but it was a very nice, clean room. It was bigger than it looked in the photo on their website. Whenever we visit Alubquerque, we will stay here again. No complaints, everything was great. Old Town is very nearby & downtown is just a short drive. The host was very informative about what to see and where to eat.

I enjoy staying in places that have character. Sometime this causes my wife some consternation. But when she read about this motel on TripAdvisor and heard about Gustav the dog she was hooked. All the good things previous reviews have to say are true and then some. Probably the best maintained and cleanest grounds and room I have ever seen. Real wood moulding in the room, beautiful rose bushes in from of your room, extra coffee and fixings in the vending room. And the owners are lovely. Sadly, their dog Gustav is getting on in years and blind but he still comes out to say hello if you ask. Just a couple blocks walk to Old Town (eat at Church Street Cafe) but otherwise the area is run-down Old US 66. Still I will go back next time I am in the area.
