We eat here on a regular basis. The food and service are always excellent. This is true coastal Mexican food not the typical super hot New Mexican fare. Quality food, great service, and a friendly atmosphere; can't say much more.

Friends took us here and we loved it. Intriguing food, every dish was outstanding. I had Snapper Veracruziana. Loved the flan at the end. Highly recommended.

We dined at lunch with friends at Los Equipales. There is ample parking which was a plus since parking on Central can be a challenge. The restaurant is about 10 minutes from the Sunport. We dined in the front room which was filled with light and reminiscent of several restaurants we frequented in Mexico. My Shrimp Veracruz was delicious with a tasty sauce. The zucchini and carrot coins were a delicious accompaniment. Others in the group had fajitas, chicken mole ( chocolate/chile sauce), and a crab salad. All enjoyed their meals. The crab salad was in a tomato and the lettuce was just chopped green lettuce. I thought $3.99 was high for chips and salsa but the 3 salsas had good flavor . Portions are not large and prices are above average. Service was efficient.

Anymore, we have so many restaurant choices in Albuquerque, that it is tough making a decision where to eat sometimes. Several times a year, however, we go to Los Equipales, just east of Nob Hill, off Central Avenue. The neighborhood for this restaurant looks a bit racy, which might be intimidating for some people. But this shouldn't deter you from taking advantage of this dining opportunity.

In contrast to many restaurants in Albuquerque, Los Equipales serves Mexican---not New Mexican---food. Emphasis is placed on seafood, with my favorite dish being Shrimp Veracruzana (large shrimp in a mixture of tomato, onion, and olives). Yes, you can get an enchilada or chips and salsa, but the menu variety is much more extensive than this. The salsas are all hand-made by the owner's mother and are robust, without being too spicy or hot.

One of our favorite dishes is tostadas with huitlacoche. If I described huitlacoche, you might be a bit turned off by it. But don't let this stop you. The tostadas here are served with a huilacoche-corn mixture, which is divine. You can get this as a main dish, but we order it as an appetizer.

This restaurant is informal, yet comfortable. The crowd is mostly local, and it is busier at lunch than at dinner. The wine selection is impressive, and save room for dessert (especially Mexican Wedding Cake).

Mexican food is actually very hard to find in Albuquerque. Many folks here consider New Mexican food as Mexican food and have no idea that there is a difference. To my knowledge, this is the only restaurant in town that serves Huitlacoche, a true gourmet specialty, fungus the grows on corn it is a great treat. Please note they only serve beer and wine, they serve a wine margarita which some folks like, but don't expect the kick of the real thing.
