“Typical Marriott, huge breakfast”
Reviewed 4 September 2012

We stayed here on our last night in Albuquerque - Sep 2, 2012. Overall, it was typical of what one would expect in a Marriott hotel. There were 3 couples in our group, thus 3 rooms. On-site free parking.

One of the rooms was being refurbished when we arrived, but it wasn't long before the hotel corrected that by moving them to another room. It seemed odd that the front desk wouldn't know the bathroom in that room they assigned them was being re-tiled.

The location is good - plenty of restaurants close by, easy access to I-40. Friendly staff. We stayed using points, so that is why I rated this as an Excellent Value (for us it was). Because of our Marriott status, wireless internet access was free, but others in our party had to pay ... seems odd that it wasn't free for all guests. We had a small refrigerator in our room, others did not. The pool area looked nice, but we did not use it.

The breakfast buffet was not being served the morning we left so they allowed us to order anything we wanted off the menu & use our free buffet coupons. One person in our party ordered oatmeal ... it was a HUGE portion, which was more funny than a problem. You could have fed the entire table from that single bowl. All other breakfast orders were prepared very well & the wait staff was exceptionally friendly & helpful.

The best part about this hotel is it's location. You can walk to a variety of stores and restaurants. The free coffee and fruit flavored water was refreshing in the lobby. The king room was very small and in need of renovation. Someone on our floor was smoking and we could smell it. (We did tell management and they said they had an idea of who it was and would handle it, but we smelled smoke again the next day). The concierge lounge is great if you have the status. Our keys stopped working twice and that got a little annoying to have to go downstairs and have them reconfigured. We also had issues with billing. The folks were very kind when they went to fix it. Just seems a bit disjointed with the staff understanding how to do things. They are very very very nice. A+ for positive attitude and smiles!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view on a higher floor.

The Guest Letter, delivered at check-in, opened with a nice warm, friendly paragraph describing how the hotel staff was excited about my visit. The remainder of the letter enumerated 8 prohibitions and restrictions the hotel expected to be observed and obeyed. Check-in itself (as was check-out) was quick and courteous.

Happily this sour-taste did not linger beyond unpacking.

During my four night stay I did not encounter any difficulties with either the hotel staff or with the facility.

Creature Comforts: The bed and pillows were nicely comfy. Fluffy and soft yet easily contoured for a good night's rest. The bathroom featured Bath and Body Works personal shampoos and conditioner. The flip top bottles were easy to open. The contents effortlessly dispensed via a gentle squeeze. What joy. No ketchup-like pounding required in order to obtain a dribble of shampoo. The room air conditioner was effective and easily set to the desired room temperature.

Facility: The four elevators were adequate for the number of hotel rooms, although the hall annunicators were difficult to hear, probably so as not to disturb the nearby sleeping rooms, however the door safety sensor tone penetrated far down the hallway and into the rooms. The lobby area featured an open floor plan bar, convenient for guests watching the front entrance for meet-ups. Ubiquitous television monitors adorned the walls, tuned to either sports or news and vied with the ceiling music for dominance. Beverage service appeared to be prompt. I did not visit the restaurant during my stay.

Those Nice Touches: The wi-fi, $10 a day, was fast, easy to connect and devoid of restrictions and ads. In-room coffee service is one of those single brew affairs, but using a filter packet of hotel-branded coffee instead of the more expensive hermetic cup thingies. A nice wooden chest holds the coffee, tea, creams and swizzle sticks. I left it open to ensure replenishment. Self-serve coffee is also available in the elevator lobby, but get there early if you desire “milk” with your brew. In the afternoon citrus accented (floating lemons) ice water replaces the coffee.

Quibbles: The illumination over the vanity (which is in the bathroom, where it ought to be) was too yellow and almost too dim to adequately see. Okay to shave but if you are applying makeup consider using the bedroom mirror and natural light. No newspaper if you aren’t on their list as a frequent stayer. Maid service is late in the day, a trend I am seeing of late. Once upon a time maids woke you up if you tried to sleep in, now you are lucky to see clean towels before dinner.

Room Tip: Odd numbers face east and afford a view of the Sandia Mountains (and sunrise.)

We stayed here for a wedding at the end of July. The location was good. Easy access from the main roads and close to dining and shopping. The pool was nice. It's an older hotel but clean and the staff was very nice. No complaints given the block room rate. I would recommend it.

We stayed here over the weekend to take our kids to the zoo, aquarium, etc... We used points to pay for our two night stay. The staff were wonderful and gave us a lovely end room on the concierge floor that had an amazing view of the Sandia mountains. Our kids sat against the window and played there for hours! Spacious room as it was handicapped equipped. Only complaint was the smell of urine deep in our mattress bed and they tried to take care of the situation, bit honestly I think they need to replace the bed.
They have us breakfast tickets and we were sad to see that they renovates the entire lobby and restaurant and took away the classy restaurant and amazing buffet. Room has about 7 tables in one strange setup of a room and the buffet was comparable to a Holiday Inn Express with limited food. Happy we did not have to pay as I feel it should be complimentary with that type of ambiance. We will stay there again as it is close to everything and some amazing restaurants nearby. Staff was incredible.

My wife and I stayed here for 1 night and both thought the hotel deserving of a 4-star rating. The reception staff was very friendly and personable. Room #1006 on the 10th floor had a mediocre city view but the room itself was very nice. There is no free continental breakfast (pricey menu actually) but they do provide free water, orange juice, coffee in the lobby. We would stay here again if it was for quick over night stay.

Was in town for 1 week attending the Youth Nationals Arabian Horse Show. Stayed here given location near event and Mariott name. As a frequent traveler, I can tell you I haven't stayed at a hotel in a long time that was very happy to be so average and non-customer focused!
First of all, remember you are in Albuquerque, not New York or a big city so temper expectations on amenities, etc. Tried breakfast in the hotel restaurant the first day. 45 minutes after sitting down, finally got food. When we said something to manager, he didn't seem to care and offered no apologies or anything to make up for it. Just an "oh well" type of mentality.
The hotel has little signs in the room advertising how you can print from your room. When this didn't work, we called front desk and they said that service is no longer available. Then perhaps remove the little signs sitting on the desks in the room?!
Night before we checked out, we asked for extra time before leaving (trying to work around the horse show events before going to airport). Front desk told us we could stay until 2:00 which would have worked out fine. However, she went to double check with the manager to see if she could get us 3:00. Manager came back and said he could accomodate our request by allowing us to stay until 1:00! When I explained that we were already told 2:00 and that 1:00 was even less, he said it was a mistake and nothing he could do. Once again, they could care less and didn't try to make any accomodation.
Overall, this hotel seemed to not care about the traveler. A very "oh well" type of mentality was pervasive in this hotel.

Room Tip: we were on the 16th floor and most people seem to like the higher floor rooms better for whatever re...
