A Historical Park worth visiting. The Royal Grounds are beautiful. Very interesting. A must see if you're visiting the Island of Hawaii.

It was interesting with nice tide pools. There are two different self guided tours. The 2 mile tour is warm if done later in the morning or afternoon.

“Amazing place, the effort to create this is mind blowing.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 April 2014

I have to admit I have a weakness for Hawaiian history so I had to see Pu'uhonua O Honaunau while I was on Big Island. I am from Kauai and this amazing sacred place dwarfs anything on little Kauai.
Leave yourself time to realize just how much effort went into this place and what it meant to the people that created it. I recommend you take advantage of the big-islander's openess and "talk-story" with them. Ask questions and have fun. I did.

“A park worth taking the time to see”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 April 2014

It was like going back in time with the mock village. I can just picture people sitting around playing the checkers type game with people are racing in for their lives. The walls and huts are really well done.

“Serenity and understanding.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 April 2014

What a beautiful place on a beautiful island. You walk at your leasure , following the informational numbered signs. While enjoying the beauty and spirituality of this sacred place you are wowed by the Ancient Hawaiins understanding of how to manage and balance their needs while maintaining the balance of nature and revering the gifts of the ocean & land. I will return to enjoy and experience the feeling this special and sacred evokes in anyone who will take the time to appreciate it.
