“Spectacular Ocean View”

Bob and Mary were wonderful hosts. Mary's breakfasts are the best on the island. They provided lots of tips about what to see and where to find the best places to eat - they were perfect on all counts.

Hale Ho'ola is exactly what we needed for the last two nights of our around-the-island week-long vacation. Bob and Mary were very pleasant hosts, and we enjoyed their company at breakfast every morning (along with the geckos :) We had the smallest of the three rooms situated around a common lounge area, but it was clean and comfortable with a private bath. Bob and Mary were helpful with suggestions for dining in the evenings, and their south-central location made it easy to visit all the spots we wanted to see on our highlight tour. We would definitely stay there again.

The special attention Bob and Mary give their guests is difficult to describe. I can confidently say it is better than many of us get when visiting our own relatives.
We arrived in the middle of high season with no preparation whatsoever. Bob and Mary went out of their way to ensure we found sites and activities that we would enjoy. Thanks to their patience and hospitality, we not only felt like special guests, we were sent off with an "insider's" tour of their corner of the island, complete with stops only a local would know about. This delightfully unique couple never suggested charging us for these "extras", even though they would never be available to the guests of resorts up the coast. Their whimsical stories and colorful personalities would entertain the most seasoned traveler.

My husband and I just spent three nights at Hale Ho'ola and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The room was quite comfortable and we had a gorgeous view of Lake Kalakekua. Our last evening there, we got a bottle of wine, some cheese, and crackers and just sat out and enjoyed the spectactular sunset from our lanai...what a perfect way to end our trip!
Bob and Mary are quite knowledgeable about the island and are eager to share information about restaurants, locations, and activities. Every morning Bob prints out weather and volcano reports, with the disclaimer that both the weather and the volcano will do what they want, despite his report! Mary's breakfasts are delightful and are served on a lovely deck surrounded by native trees and plants, and some interesting "wildlife":)
There is a small refrigerator on each lanai, and snorkel gear, coolers, beach towels and mats are all provided for any excursion you might wish to take. We had a wonderful time, and can't wait to go back. The only caveat I can identify is that the place is a little hard to find the first time or two--but once you get your landmarks you're good to go. Thanks, Bob and Mary!

Bob and Mary were very welcoming, great breakfasts (including fresh fruit) on the balcony that overlooked the ocean, and helpful in offering tips and advice about getting around. The rooms were simple but clean and sat off a common lounge room where you could sit and read etc. No TV but that is the idea. When you first arrive in Captain Cook it's a surprise at how quiet and undeveloped the area is - which is just the way they like it - and once you get used to the quietness of the area and used to the fact that restaurants close at 730pm, it's quite amazing. Well located close to beaches, snorkelling and kyaking (via car). Yes, the entrance off the highway is hard to spot - but there's not really much traffic..and it's not what I'd call a real highway!

We enjoyed our two-day stay here very much. Bob and Mary are the perfect hosts, providing us with helpful tips on dining and sightseeing, along with wonderful breakfasts on the outdoor lanai. Our room was comfortable, with a private lanai overlooking the ocean. Getting on and off the main highway is a little tricky, but hardly a big problem, and no traffic noise can be heard from the rooms--very quiet.
