We stayed at the Horizon House two nights. Clem was a wonderful host. Each suite is well designed with a private lanai. Clem, who seldom indulges in breakfast, sure knows how to create a breakfast feast! Homemade bread, muffins, and hot cereal, not to mention a fabulous omelet one morning and French toast that melted in your mouth another morning.
The home sits on 40 acres of land where cattle, horses, goats and two loving dogs, Bruno and Bebe, have free roam.
Wake up to a beautiful view of the ocean enjoying a delicious cup of Clem's coffee and relax on your lanai with your favorite beverage while watching the sunset. This is paradise.

My husband and I stayed at the HGH for four nights in February 2012. I am ashamed that I haven't written a review until now! Whenever my husband and I remember our stay, I feel a little guilty for not reviewing so I'm finally doing it! Clem is a wonderful host. The views, accommodation, and breakfasts were all amazing. I think we sat at the breakfast table chatting with the other guests for over an hour every morning.

Thank you Clem! We will be back!!!

Amazing views, amazing meals, amazing hospitality. Clem & Horizon Guesthouse are the epitome of being welcomed and made feeling you are a part of a family while you are there.

This is THE place to stay, especially if you are celebrating and Anniversary, Birthday, or Special Occasion.

Room Tip: Room 4 is the last room and furthest from the Common Area, so offers the best for privacy and intimacy.

Everything all the other reviewers say is true. This is the place you want to stay on the Big Island. We stayed for 10 nights so had a good chance to settle in. Clem's hosting was impeccable: friendly, attentive, and informative without being intrusive. The views from the rooms and pool area cannot be beaten anywhere. The guest house is situated about 1000 ft above the west coast, on the flank of Mauna Loa, and gives an opportunity for spectacular sunsets (see photo). The rooms are spacious and well-equipped, and the beds are stellar. The extra amenities are all you could wish for-- beach towels, beach chairs, snorkelling gear, parkas (for those Mauna Kea trips), personal insect repellent (for those bush and beach trips), etc., etc. A TV/Video is available for viewing any of the nearly 1000 DVDs on offer (a good evening kickback after a day of touring). Breakfasts prepared in front of you took account of individual needs, desires or requirements, and were a multi-course adventure- so much so that I had to start eating only with my eyes. A BBQ grill and small food prep area is available poolside, and we chose to 'eat in' each night (rather than drive somewhere), which was easy to do, and someone else (thanks, Clem) did most of the washing up.

The venue is a working ranch, with plenty of fresh fruits around, and well thought-out to be sustainable and environmentally friendly- so one can stay with a clear conscience.Enough animals around to view from a distance or to make friends with if you like.

Horizons is located on the Kona coast about 30 mi from the Kona airport, and it is well-placed for day trips around the island, such as to South Point, Hawai'i Volcanoes Natl Park, and even to Mauna Kea and the Kohala coast sites. (You will need to hire a car to stay on the island-- there's almost no public transport.)

This is one venue that absolutely lives up to- no, surpasses- its billing, and unless you are a 'resort' hound that needs to stay with a lot of other noisy people next to expensive high street shopping, and pay exorbitant amounts for food and drink, this is the place you want to be. We'll go back, and send all our friends.

Well, I have to explain why Horizon Guest House is the best. First of all, even though it’s B&B – it’s nothing less than a resort with breakfast package. Let me just give you a list of amenities we found there –

Beach towels, chairs, boards, coolers, umbrellas, different sizes of snorkels and fins, anti-fog for snorkels, variety of sunscreen lotions, mosquito/insect repellent, aloe-vera lotion for sunburns, nail-polish remover (really?), different kitchen utensils, on-site washer and dryers, laundry detergents….and I must be missing few more.

The hosts Clem and Mike are very welcoming and friendly. Clem is super-quick in responding to any questions you may have, starting from reservation to planning our trip and everything in between! He is very experienced person with quite a lot helpful tips-n-tricks. The breakfast served at Horizon is awesome, and Clem surprised us with different varieties every morning. (The breakfast is NOT like typical buffet served at hotels and resorts. This is super personalized for the guest!)

Their pet dogs Bruno and BB are fun to play with! Bruno may look big, but he is friendly and funny dog. They have various other animals like horses, donkeys and goats. Clem and Mike give shelter to orphan or injured animals to their farm. Well, these animals and pets were NEVER a concern during our stay at Horizon, as it’s a big property and guest area is well secluded.

There are four rooms in the house and sitting room, library (good collection of books and DVDs for guests), kitchen etc. All rooms are same, except room #4 has queen size bed. Each and every detail is very well designed and taken care from the hosts. They use refillable water bottles to avoid using plastics!

Now the best part (beyond rooms, amenities and hosts) is – the ocean view. They have nicest infinite-edge pool and ocean view. The words neither describe the view nor justify the beauty and feeling one would get there!! The pool is solar heated, and they also have hot-pool. There was BBQ grill right near the pool.

In a nutshell, the customization and personalized attention we got at Horizon Guest House is beyond one would get at those pricy hotels and resorts. This is THE BEST place on Big Island for couples. (They might now allow young kids for safety reason; please check with Clem, in any case.) Imagine going to Hawai’i without worrying about laundry and those small things like lotions etc, to not worry about beach accessory rentals – and the best view!! That is Horizon Guest House. We were so sad leaving this place more than leaving from Hawai’i.

Finally, I’m a big fan of supporting local business, especially in Hawai’I where big business chains are taking over small business. Even if you stay somewhere else, it’s not a bad idea “to do Horizon Guest House” as an activity for a night or two – just for the view, relaxation and personalized attention you would receive!! I mean, what else do we need on vacations?

This place deserve more of a 7-stars than 5-stars. (even with TripAdvisor standards!!)

Room Tip: Total four rooms, all are same, except room#4 is more private and has a queen-size bad. Room #2 is closest to the pool, but it really does not matter.
