“Amazingly Beautiful.”

You don't even have to get out of the car to enjoy the beauty of this magical place. I prefer to go after one of the first rains after summer. Cars driving on the gravel road kick up dust and cover a lot of the ferns during the dry months. In the fall you will find many colorful fungi. There are several wonderful swimming holes...my favorite is off the Nickerson Ranch Trail. If you start in Crescent City you will emerge near the pristine Smith River and cross and old covered bridge before you get back to the highway. Make sure to drive very slowly, as parts of the road are very narrow and there are many blind corners. Don't forget your camera!

Every where you look is one photo opportunity after another, when you get to the parking lot there is a nice restroom and good parking, the hiking trail is very easy and quiet despite the large amount of visitors everyone we saw was looking up in awe at the amazing trees.
Good drive although I would recommend at least an all wheel drive vehicle if you are going to drive all the way out the road back to Crescent City, about 3/4 of the way thru we hit a big mud puddle that I was not sure our front wheel drive Neon was going to get thru. One bit of caution the highway to get there is full of tight curves and a lot of traffic once you are on the dirt road headed into stout grove you can start looking at the trees.

Beautiful place to stop and walk among the giant trees. Easy trail, nice chance to stretch your legs and take some photos. Parking lot with restrooms. River running along the lower trail.

I don't use the word 'magical' lightly...but this spot is, it really truly is. The drive to it, the little hike in it and the drive out of it is just....magical. Everyone we ran into in the parking lot or on the trails was basically standing with their jaws dropped and their eyes opened wide staring up at the majestic trees...worth the stop!!

This was the first time we had a chance to stop at these redwoods. The start of the trail is a little steep going down and you have to come back up, of course. The main part of the trail is level and very beautiful. There is a restroom in the parking lot.
