“Smaller room, yet right on the beach.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 October 2013

Room opened up to a back deck with chairs, right on the beach. You could walk for at least a mile along the beach. Room was small, yet adequate, with a table. No fridge if that matters, we had a cooler. Was such a treat to stay on the beach, would definitely stay again. Disappointed by seafood at 2 local restaurants, don't remember the names- ask questions. We were able to get a room without a reservation in early summer.

Hi Trish and ‘Hubby’,

We are so glad that you stayed at the motel. You are right about the beach being long, and great for walks! Refrigerators are available for a very small fee and they will be added to some, or most, of the rooms very soon. Thank you for posting the awesome photos and review!

This place was amazing. You step out the sliding door of your room, and boom! You're on the beach. Great views of the surf and lighthouse. Very clean beach, and we had great walks. Morning rainbows were common. Excellent value. An older property, but well-maintained and clean. Rooms were equipped with a Keurig coffee maker. The only beef I had, and it's nitpicky, is that the pillows weren't the best.

Room Tip: Pick something with a beach view.

Hi Roguelady,

We thank you for staying at the Crescent Beach Motel and writing a follow up review! The motel front desk is where to go if you need extra pillows. I am not sure if extra ones would have helped, but maybe it will help someone that reads this response. We hope that you can visit again soon.

The ocean and the deck out back are the high points of this hotel. This is an old style 60's motel, rooms are very tight. Very few outlets, if you need to charge your cells phones, laptop, and camera batteries. It is clean. I talked with a couple for a couple hours while sitiing on deck looking at ocean. Then went to bed , got up early and I was gone. Left the window open to hear the ocean at night. The deck and being able to be out of the room , makes up some for the small room.

If you like the beach then this is THE place to stay! As far as I could tell it is the only place actually on the beach (the other more expensive and yes newer places offer a ocean view but there is no beach to walk out on nor are there any verandas!). The staff were all very friendly and helpful. It is an older building and yes the rooms are small but very clean and comfortable. But you know, the beach is 20 feet from your room, why are you wanting to sit in a room? The wrap around veranda is nice to have, my husband and I enjoyed very much meeting our neighbors every evening to watch the sunset and again in the mornings to have coffee and watch the sun come up. It was very quiet once the sun went down. The only sounds were the waves slapping the sand and the fog horn during the night. In the morning I heard the Sea Lions a few times!!! There is a "hospitality" room that provides fresh coffee, fruit and oatmeal in the morning.
The Motel is located just south of Crescent City so you do have to go into town for the restaurants, etc....but so what? Nothing was more than 5 minutes away. We had dinner at the Chart Room one night, fantastic! And while you're eating the fresh Seafood you can watch the Sea Lions and Harbor Seals sun bathe on the boat docks!
The staff at the Crescent Beach Motel are really terrific and are more than willing to help you. Since they live there they can tell you which sites, tourist traps you really should see and which ones to save your money on......
As you can tell my husband and I had a very nice 2 night visit here, I could go on and on about it but will just end with the word FANTASTIC!!!!!!

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room with the ocean view

The room was on the small side, but the bed was firm, and there was a table with comfortable chairs. The sound of the ocean waves was quite audible and soothing. Unfortunately, so was the child crying next door. After that group departed, the new guests talked for hours on the covered walkway that faces the water. After 8:30 pm, we asked them to lower the volume and they did.

What I really liked was:
1. The front office staff (the woman who checked me in was very excited about showing me how to use the coffee maker in the room. But do not go to The Chart House for dinner. It was awful.)
2. The hot water, coffee and decaf thermos available all day and evening right next to the ice machine.
3. The breakfast of fresh fruit (so nice to see apples that are not "red delicious") and instant oatmeal. Since my husband does not breakfast, this solved a problem for me.

They have a very strict no pet policy, which troubled me enough that I was afraid to pull some of my clothes out of my suitcase. Pet hair follows me everywhere, even on vacation, and I did not carry a lint roller!

2005 was the first year we stayed at this lovely motor inn! We have, since, been back many times. The view is superb. The sound of the ocean and fog horn in the distance are music to the ears. We truly love staying here as it's like stepping back in time-to a slower pace. I hope this place never loses its charm! Highly recommended!

We stay here for two nights in mid-August. The Motel is a bit South of Crescent City, but is right on the highway. It is an older motel ala' the 50s or 60s. However, it does have some character. The place has a big back deck that runs the length of the Motel. Its a little strange at firs to see people walking right by your back patio door, but you get used to it pretty quickly. I really think if you want a view and you want to be in Crescent City, you want to be south of town as it is kind of an industrial place.

However we took a couple of drives to see the big Coast Red Woods and it was well worth the trip! The places were beautiful.

WiFi in rooms 8-9 was a bit spotty. however, stepping out on to the deck, reception was fine, and really with this kind of view, better to sit outside anyway! You walk quite aways on the beach either North or South. No restaurants within walking distance, but its just a short drive into to town. We really liked the place and would go back.

There was Oatmeal, fruit, coffee, hot chocolate for breakfast. That's it.

Room Tip: Although I rated Pool and Restaurant avg, this place has neither. I would like to just rate them as...
