This KOA was our first stop on our roadtrip and it was all we hoped it would be! It's nestled right in the redwoods very close to the ocean. The camp hosts/employees were extremely wonderful and helpful with directions and local information on where to go and what to see. We rented one of the Kamper Kabins for our stay and it was very clean and comfortable. It's very nice to have a queen sized bed AND bunk beds when traveling with kids (and not the shorter than normal bunks either...these are full length). The only suggestion I have for this KOA is to put in a pool...it was very hot when we got there (end of June) and it would have been wonderful for the kids (and the grownups too) to be able to enjoy that. Everything else was great - especially the pancake breakfast!! We will definitely be back again!!

We stayed in the lodge cabin, it slept our six. It had a futon, bunk beds and a queen size bed. It also had a kitchette which was nice. We had a great stay. The staff was excellent, very friendly. This was a perfect home base for our getaway. Lot's to see and do nearby. I only wish I lived a little closer, I would come on weekends just to get away and relax.

My husband and I had been traveling all the way from Salt Lake City, UT clear down the Oregon coast. We'd gone through sandy beaches, muddy rivers, total downpour and muggy air. So when we finally reached the Redwoods we were TOAST, we didn't want to put up the tent in the mud so the KOA staff offered us a Cabin for only $10 more than a tent sight. WOW! They said they docked the price due to the rain so we could stay in a nice warm, dry place. The cabin wasn't far from the showers and bathroom but it seemed like it was off in it's own little world. The hot showers and laundry sight were clean and provided everything we needed. After cooking a hot meal and roasting marshmellows in the firepit, we got a good nights sleep in a nice warm, clean cabin. When we woke, we got to see the beautiful Redwoods and nothing else.
We left with clean clothes, selves, and recharged batteries ready to continue our travels. Thanks to this KOA! If we're ever passing through again, we will be sure to stay here! =)

Planned an RV trip along No. CA coast and saw good reviews for this place. Not such a good choice for us. The full hookup RV spots are incredibly close together and totally lacking in scenery. The no-hookup RV spots in the "Redwood Forest" part of the camground are very pretty, but why not stay in a real state or national redwoods park, be surrounded by 1000s of redwoods, and pay a fraction of the price? Plus this park is actually several miles north of Crescent City proper, not close to any amenities or redwoods parks. Camp store very thinly stocked, staff bored and a bit surly. If you need hookups and are traveling south from Crescent City, look up Emerald Forest RV Park in Trinidad- really lovely.

A really well run campground - So incredibly beautiful with the magical huge redwood trees.
Travelling with three big dogs and we all loved this place!

Nice, big spots. Peaceful and silent at night.
My absolutely best recommendations.

Pure Magic

Our family stayed at this Kampground twice - once on July 1st and again on July 12th, 2010, as part of our Oregon/California coast road trip. This was by far our favourite Kampground of all!!!! We were greeted by friendly staff who quickly checked us into the little Kabin that we had rented. The Kabins themselves were situated right in the middle of the magnificent ancient redwoods, but surprisingly, there were NO bugs! We were shocked as we were prepared, armed with bug spray, but we didn't see one mosquito, fly, wasp, bee, beetle, etc. We did see a banana slug, but it was out of the way and didn't interfere with us at all. The Kabin was lovely, quaint, and clean. Because of the extreme humidity of the redwoods, the Kabin was a little "musty" inside, although an hour of an open door helped to dry out the humidity inside quite a bit. The Kabins had a space heater and also had electricity - a light and a 120V plug outlet if you needed to charge anything. The firepits were very well maintained and there were benches surrounding them, so you wouldn't need to bring any of your own chairs. The temperature was pretty constant and it didn't get too chilly at night in July when we were there. This Kampground was very family friendly. It had these cool bikes that were like trikes, and you could rent them for your kids for an hour for $7.00 each. We saw lots of kids riding these throughout the Kampground, so right away, we got this really "family friendly" vibe. We also found the washrooms to be very clean, and there were nice free clean hot showers as well. They also had laundry facilities at a reasonable price, which is always a bonus while you are camping! Another super nice feature of this Kampground is that most days of the week they offer campers an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast for only $3.00 each! It also had a nice store where you could purchase firewood ($6.00 for 5 pieces of wood), as well as very nice redwood souveneirs. There were also treats for purchase if you had a sweet tooth craving. As well, there was good fresh hot coffee for purchase in the morning. This Kampground also had a little "petting zoo" with chickens, goats, etc, for young kids to enjoy. This Kampground is located just 5 miles north of Crescent City, which is a large place, where you can get all the amenities you need and it is very conveniently close. We would recommend this Kampground to anyone, and would love to stay here again!

Now, I have not been to EVERY KOA in America, but I have been to lots of them. This one was awesome. It is a ways outside of Crescent City (which you'll be thankful for. The proprieters are super friendly and accommodating. They have a well-stocked game room as well as another room with a large screen TV - great for World Cup action, which was on in the evenings! The campground was quiet enough that some of the camp-phobes in my group slept quite well thank you (even though it's just of the 101). The grass and everything else was nicely kept, the showers clean, blah, blah blah. You get the picture. A KOA just couldn't offer much more.
