“Great Place - Great Property -Great Staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 August 2014

We stayed at this KOA in early July and were not disappointed. We were able to book 2 nights in one of the cabins. We rented the cabin with full bath and kitchen (Stove top and microwave and full fridge), slept 6 people. One bedroom with a queen bed, bunk beds and pull out couch with a bed. Beautiful property with several old redwoods on the back of the property. In the early morning we saw lots of elk right next to our cabin. The staff was so nice and helpful. Store had everything. Truly an enjoyable stay and would stay there again. Great property and staff.

This campground is right off the main road, so it is easy to get too, but don't picture that you are deep into the woods. It was a good option for us though because the cabin was still cozy and convenient for our last minute request. There were only two of us so we took the two twin mattresses and put under the full mattress for extra comfort. It wasn't a perfect fit but we made it work and it ended up being quite a comfortable night's sleep. The bathroom was very clean and warm for the cool night at the end of April. There was a space heater in the cabin, but it wasn't needed. Linens and pillows not provided.

I am used to environmental camping where the car is a good hike away, this camp site gave me the same feeling with the car close by. The staff is very friendly. We camped in the redwoods which is away from the main part of the camp. It was almost like we were the only ones. We had two problems, the tent area was on a very slight incline so I kept almost falling over when I stood up and the bathrooms were too far away. We had to leave early because our bodies just can't take camping and they helped to us figure out if we should move to a cabin or not.

Room Tip: Redwood sites are far from the bathrooms. Internet can't reach must past the bathrooms.

What a beautiful KOA! Our spot was roomy and the employes were friendly and helpful. Restrooms were clean, and the laundry facilities were nice. We traveled in a 28 ft. Trailer and had plenty of room. Met some great people. If your planning a trip to the Redwoods, this is your perfect accommodations.

It's not easy to find a nice place to camp in the California redwoods at the last minute before the 4th of July weekend, but we hit the jackpot when we found a site at this KOA. Although much of the campground looks like a parking lot with all the RV "campers", the tent and cabin sites are right in a beautiful redwood grove. Sites are shady and relatively quiet even though campsites are fairly close to each other. Best of all, the owner offers a pancake breakfast most mornings, thus eliminating the chore of cooking outdoors and cleaning up pots and pans.

My one complaint would be that the nearest bathrooms were quite a long way from our tent site. I was not happy to go hiking so far in the dark to make a bathroom visit! But on the other hand, the bathrooms were clean and well-maintained. By avoiding the early morning and evening rush, we did not have to wait in line for the showers either.

KOA Campground is conveniently located to several nearby attractions including Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, the Smith River, and several lovely beaches. And if you do not like tent-camping, there are some very nice cabins with built-in beds, swing chairs, and other features that you can rent for a very reasonable price. Great affordable place to stay on the norther California coast!

Room Tip: Both redwood and alder campsites are very nice for tent campers. I don't think there is a "...

I probably would have rated this KOA higher but they stuck us in an area that made us feel like tenters were to be out of site. The focus here seems to be on their cabins and RVs. The campground sports all of the typical KOA amenities and was well kept. The staff courteous.

The tenters are sent to the back of the park amongst the large redwoods which in itself was nice but out of range of the WiFi and the tent sites were filled with root growth making for a miserable night if you failed to bring matting. We managed to get tucked into an area that provided enough space for our six man tent and three groves between the roots to get sleep though not comfortably. There were a few other sites around town that may have offered more tent friendly camping.

Room Tip: Specify your expectations for a tent site or you may be rudely surprised.

If your someone who stays in camping cabins, this is by far the best setting you could dream of. Are redwoods why your looking around here? Well we had then around us. Dreamy! A few miles north of town on a very fast road so it's easy to get stuff you need.very clean grounds. And facilities. Pleasant management. But if you want WIFI in your cabin it ain't gonna happen. But there's good service at the commons building.
