This review is actually for Mary's Lake Lodge (not Mary's Lake campground).
We stayed at Mary's Lake Lodge for two days in July. The place itself is very beautiful, set just outside of Estes Park so very easy access to Rocky Mountain National Park. However, the staff and a handful of rowdy guests at the lodge ruined the stay for us.
The person who checked us in was friendly enough, but was not knowledgable about the site. We were given a map and when we asked where to park, she told us either parking lot was fine and the room was just as accessible from either. After eventually finding our room, we discovered that the lot we parked in required hauling our luggage up three flights of stairs where as the other one had direct access to our room. Ok, no big deal, we moved the car.
We went to bed at 11. Because we were on the third floor and also because of no air-conditioning, we had to have the windows open. The lounge is quite a popular place and when it closed, people started coming out around 12 and partying in the parking lot. This went on until 2am. Then at 7am, construction on new cabins being built on the property started.
At 8:30 that morning, we had two girls come up to our room, carrying a bottle of Windex, asking if we wanted housekeeping. I told them we were going to be leaving in twenty minutes and if they could come back then, that would be great. They left and i heard them ask another room the same question. When the person said the same thing, they left and started complaining loudly that they would never get their job done if people wouldn't leave.
Friday night after midnight was even worse. it appeared that some members of the staff must stay on the property because girls were running around in the parking lot, yelling 'Housekeeping !! May i clean your room ??' and laughing loudly. This led to partying in the lot again, with stereos in cars turned on. This group went on to stay in one of the cabins and partied in their room until past 3:30 am.
We had to get up early the next morning to leave so we tried shutting the windows but it did not really help.
After managing to get four hours of sleep, we checked out. We complained to the person who checked us out about the noise. She looked at us blankly, said she had worked there until 11pm, heard nothing, and that this was the first she had heard of it. i told her that many other guests would probably be complaining, and we were given an 'oh well' and sent on our way.
I am not an easily annoyed person and can deal with noise, less than conditions, etc. But this place was very disappointing to me, especially given the cost(over $200 a night). Our condo(202) that we did stay in was very beautiful, with a huge deck having a gorgeous view of Mary's Lake and the mountains. That is the only reason why i gave this a 'two' instead of a 'one'. (the condo itself would have warranted at least a four) It is a shame that the staff ruined this stay for us because of their indifference and disrespect they showed to their guests.
While we loved Estes Park and our condo, we will not be returning to Mary's Lake Lodge.
