“Refresh your spirit at Idlewilde”
Reviewed 16 August 2013

This was our first visit to Estes Park and RMNP, and I had a picture in my mind of exactly what I wanted for our accommodations. I looked at many cabins online before choosing Idlewilde, and after staying there I can honestly say these were my favorite cabins of all that I saw in the Estes Park area that week. The Pine Cone is cozy, super clean, and beautifully situated steps from the river's edge. Fabulous natural beauty in Rocky Mountain National Park is so close, and after hiking all day we would come back and sit under the trees to watch and listen to the river endlessly flowing by. It was so relaxing and refreshing to the spirit, while at the same time providing such comfort and convenience. The hosts Donna and Lloyd make you feel like you're an old friend from the very start, and Idlewilde definitely delivers on what they display and promise on their web site. Thanks for a wonderful vacation. We will be back !

This was our first trip to Estes, and we were so lucky to find Idlewilde! The Linger Longer cabin was perfect for our group of 4 adults and 2 kids. The cabin was spotless, and offered all the amenities of home! The Big Thompson river just feet from our cabin was our favorite spot to relax and fish. Lloyd and Donna were excellent hosts and made every part of our trip from booking to checkout seamless! We greatly appreciated Donna's advice on places to eat, and she even had several coupons for us to use. She also helped us get reservations at the fantastic Twin Owls steakhouse. The steak and elk were delicious! Smokin Daves BBQ was also tasty! RMNP was absolutely beauitful, and the hikes to Alberta Falls and Bear Lake were breathtaking! We went whitewater rafting on the the Poudre River out of Fort Collins with Mountain Whitewater Descents. They were an excellent company, and we would recommend them highly! Needless to say our trip to Estes was everthing we imagined and more! Absolutely refreshing!

Idlewilde by the River helps you get back to the simple things -- the things that matter. My wife and our two college-aged daughters so enjoyed hearing the rush of the Big Thompson River and the constant visits by the hummingbirds. Donna and Lloyd are great hosts and attended to all our needs. Smores by the fire on the final night was a great way to say goodbye for now.

and it keeps getting better. It is so relaxing. I'll be back. I particularly enjoy sitting on the porch and watching the hummingbirds. I took more advantage of the grills this time. It beats dealing with the crowded restaurants. It's great being so close to RMNP. The cabins are charming and very comfortable. I could really feel myself relaxing as the week went by, much to quickly I might add. It's always nice to see Lloyd and Donna.

Idlewilde by the River is our favorite vacation place. The location is perfect.....along the
Big Thompson River with lots of animal life - rabbits, chipmunks, beautiful hummingbirds and an occasional elk in August. A river runs through with fish to catch and our grandkids love the tether ball, horseshoes and areas for other games. The cabins are so appealing as they are set amid tall pine trees. Every year when we arrive there are profuse pots of flowers on the office porch and in the surrounding beds. Lloyd and Donna Claypool, the Managers, are are very helpful and cheerful. They help with various requests such as recommendations for dinner, need for extra towels, fix what needs fixing, etc. This is the annual vacation spot for us and our two adult children's families. We all love being here together. There is something for all ages to do. The cabins are so clean, comfy and charming. We look forward to our next visit in 2014.

Having come to Estes this year for the 65th time, I feel almost an expert on accommodations there. And if you want the real skinny on the best place to stay in Estes-- it's Idlewilde by the River. The knotty-pine cabins may not be condo-fancy, but they are tops in comfort, cleanliness, and proximity to the Big Thompson River. Just steps from the water, the sound of the mountain stream is part and parcel of Idlewilde's decor. We sit on our screened-in porch by the hour, listening to the river and the hummingbirds that feed at a feeder outside our kitchen window, while doing puzzles, talking, and watching fisherman haul in nice trout. When we get in the mood to move, a hike into RMNP is a two minute walk from our doorstep. This place is tasty as cake and refreshing as a cup of cool water on a hot summer day.

We just spent a week in Estes and had a great stay at Idlewilde. The hosts, Donna & Lloyd went above and beyond in providing all our needs, making recommendations, and even dinner reservations for us. Our cabin set within feet of the Big Thompson river and we could not get enough of listening to the sound of it. The cabin was comfortable but a bit small. It was very clean and well cared for and the location just couldn't be beat. We especially enjoyed sitting on the porch swing watching the numerous hummingbirds at our feeder. If you are looking for a quiet, friendly place to return to after your activities each day this is the place for you!
