Our stay at the Mac Mountain Lodge was mixed. Yes it is really close to the park entrance, and the area is of course wonderful, but when we got there we were met by a rather strange greeting of "oh gosh I only have one room and it's like a shoebox", which we think was really just a way of trying to get us to upgrade to the bigger room and pay more. There is no room service, and the explanation for that was "well most people don't actually want that" which is well we all know what that's about. Give them credit for making up the room after we complained. Don't get me wrong this is a good place, but for the coin you spend you probably want to save it, by the way there are so many choices in Estes Park, and the internet makes it seem like there is only a few, stay here maybe but don't expect the results of all the glowing reviews.

My family and I used this lodging option related to the "pet friendly" policy. The lodge we stayed was outdated, but the rugged feel felt good with the approximation the Rocky Mountain National Park. With the rugged feel, you also had the rugged temperature. These units are not air conditioned. Keep this in mind, while you are higher in elevation, during our time in Colorado it was near 98 degrees.

We did have a nice view of the wildlife; in all we saw one bear and many birds. There was also a trail behind the lodges, which was rugged but a nice 20 min hike round trip.

Now to touch on my headline. Please be cautions of the owners dogs. We read reviews prior to going to this lodge but it was worse then what we expected. The owners dogs roam freely about on the grounds, and often approach the guests. We found that during our time of grilling the dogs would gather around our table and beg, we were also told by other guests that they'd jump on the table and take your food. We attempted to divert them away, however, we didn't have any success. During our last day at the lodge one of the resident dogs approached our dog and attacked him, biting him. We were accompanying our dog and had him on a lease, following the rules of the lodge for animals. When the owner was approached about the attack he responded, "sometimes they go after the dogs on leashes." No apology, we asked for shot records of their dog. Now you know why they post the distance to the nearest vet on their website. We will by submitting the bill to McGregor Mountain Lodge.

Final comments, great views, "rugged" accommodations, not customer focused. I think they are content on not having repeat customers. They charge extra for firewood, rental movies, and for room service.

Also, they don't offer the following anymore: coffee, cookies, or room service.

Absolutely the best hotel that we have ever stayed at. Located so very close to RMNP, away from the busy town. The lodge had so much wildlife - elk, birds, hummingbirds, chipmunks. It was great. Bird feeders right outside your door so you always see birds. We stood in lower chalet 16. Had an amazing view of the mountains, literally right in your back yard. Our second stay in Colorado (fell in love with the Rocky Mountains last year but stood in Boulder). Our Chalet was great. Perfect for us. 2 adults with 18 year old son. Roomy and very clean. I am very fussy with hotels and i felt so very comfortable in our Chalet. The Chalet had a full kitchen and we enjoyed eating breakfast on our table outside our room watching wildlife and sitting with Daisy. It was nice to eat outside instead of in a stuffy restaurant. We had planned 2 weeks in amazing Colorado- one in the Rockies and the other in Colorado Springs. We loved McGregor so much that we changed reservations and ended up coming back to McGregor for an extra 3 nights instead of staying in Colorado Springs. The staff - Chris, Susan and Michael were really great! Made us feel at home. They treated you like friends, not customers. Susan even sent a copy of our bill home and put a personal note on it for our son.
Absolutely loved Daisy, Tanner and Alex. Daisy met us at our room many days and came on walks with us. An amazing dog!!
Will definitely be back again and again. To straighten up other comments- The cookies are delicious and freshly baked by Chris. They are not out of a box.

My husband and I stayed here while visiting Rocky Mountain National Park. It has a great location right by the park but several things went wrong making it not worth the steep price tag that came with it. When we checked into the main office the women behind the counter was not too friendly with us. We were checking in at 5:00 so not too late or early but she seemed upset that we were disturbing her. Now you can choose your room or cabin and there are many choices and I can only speak to ours which was called "Rivers Edge Retreat". It was not even on the McGregor Mountain Lodge Property. It is across the street inside another hotel called the Tower Lodge. It is right on the river but it is basically a second floor hotel room in a lodge that is past it's prime. I was expecting a cabin or a rustic room in a larger cabin. It was very clean inside and semi spacious with a small kitchen and gas fireplace. However several things went wrong while we stayed here at the "retreat". The windows that face the parking lot for the Tower Lodge where the room is located are super bright and come into the room all night long and are right by where the bed is. The blinds do not keep any light out, it is like sleeping in the daytime, and forget about sleeping in since all the windows have the same blinds and as soon as the sun comes us the room is super bright. Also the hot water runs out after 10 minutes so only one person can shower in warm water (and this is in the summer!). The TV was also broken and had a distorted picture. For the price we paid I would look else where to see what you can get instead of this room.

My wife and I have been coming to McGregor ML for quite a few years. Our favorite time of year is the last week in September when aspen are at their peak and the elk are active, bugling and visible everywhere in the Park. We often enjoy an early snow then, too. The scenery from our cabine is gorgeous and the visits from wildlife always excites us.

We always feel comfortable and welcome here. We are never disappointed. This is the place we recommend to friends and family.

There are so many places that are nice in Estes Park, but this is the best. It has everything you need and is right up against the National Park. So much wildlife and 3 very friendly dogs. The cabins are very nice and clean and the beds very comfortable. You can't go wrong staying at McGregor Mountain Lodge.

This is the second time I have brought one of my daughters up to McGregor. It's such a lovely setting. The staff is friendly and accommodating. Best of all the cabins are so very clean and comfortable. It's a no-brainer for me--whenever I go up to Estes for an overnight it's at McGregor Mountain Lodge. We visit in the off season when there are fewer tourists. It's delightful.
