We made our first trip to Colorado and stayed at the Elk Meadow Lodge. I did read most of the recent reviews and kept an open mind. This campground is large, has a great pool and beautiful bathrooms. While there for our 3 nights, it was really windy. This was a problem because the whole campground is dirt. They may think there is some grass, I would refer to it as weeds, tall and scratchy. There was dust on everything. All our clothes, in the campers, picnic tables etc.. You always felt dirty. Plus the campers are so close together, there is no room for a picnic tab except on the gravel pad your camper is on. We did have some Elk close to the campground that were fun to see. Perhaps some cement pads, grass or oil on the gravel to help.

Elk Meadow review @ Estes Park, CO

My wife and I have been Rving at this Park since 2003 and have seen this place go down hill over the years.

I've written a past review on this park and thought I give it another try seeing I live only 45 miles away. The week we were there (June 9th - 16th 2018) was a very windy week.

First the Good:
The staff was VERY friendly and helpful. The entertainment at the bar was excellent and so were the bartenders and the waiters. All very friendly and out going. Nice people!!!

Now the Bad:

The sites are not groomed with many ruts and very unlevel. The roads and sites are nothing but dirt so when the wind blows through there (which is a normal occurrence) you end up with a dust bowl affect. Granted there is nothing one can do about Mother Nature but Elk Meadow knowing the fact that wind does blow through this RV park can make changes to help with this dust bowl affect such as putting down 3/8” gravel on the roads and sites, groom the sites after its been evacuated, plant trees on the west side of the park as wind breakers. I have many pictures of this park when it was owned by a different owner/Corporation and the grass was green and the sites were groomed. Now what little grass there is at the sites is brown and nothing but dirt and weeds. Also the previous owners would have a water tanker go around every day and wet down the road. At one time they even tried to put down recycled asphalt on the roads, that did not work to well. This could be a beautiful RV park if they spend some money on it. They charge $70 a night and call this a resort. Apparently they have no idea what an RV resort is as I've been to many and this is at the very bottom. You're better off going to the west side of Estes Park (Grand Lake area) and stay at Winding River. Check out Grizzle RV park in West Yellowstone Montana or Treasure Lake in Branson MO. Now those are resorts and they are not $70 a night.

Now the Ugly:
Dirt over the entire motorhome and car, looks like it's been sand blasted so to speak. Dirt all over chairs and table as could not enjoy sitting outside because one would be drinking dirt in their preferred beverage with all the wind.

Granted it was not like this for all 7 days but at least 4 of the seven were this bad. We ended up going to Grand Lake and Winter Park for 2 days to get out of the wind. It's was windy there as well but it wasn't as windy plus no Dust Bowl affect going on.
Even in the town of Estes Park it was very windy but again no Dust Bowl affect.

In the past this park is almost if not completely full on weekends and half to ¾ full on week days. Not so for the time we were there this June. So people save you sanity and RV / camp at another park.

Like pretty much everything else in Estes Park, this place is designed to charge a lot and offer a little. The parking space for our RV was so uneven we couldn't get it level, even with jacking one wheel off the ground. Everything is crowded, dusty, and generally a glorifed parking lot. If it's not too late, I would recommend moving on.

We had a horse show in Estes and had 5 sites plus 2 cabins at Elk Meadows
The staff is awesome ,friendly and accommodating.
Pool and showers clean and the kids loved being there.
This was our second year there and it gets better every year.
Close to everything but far enough out of the tourist traps.
Don’t go anywhere else if you want a great place !

Room Tip: Pull through sites for big rigs. 50 amp full hook up plenty of room for slides

This was by far the most luxe camping trip of my life. It incorporated just enough ruggedness mixed with awesome family friendly amenities. We stayed in a tent no problem. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. Bathrooms were tip top shape and showers were hot! We even saw a baby cub run across our camp!!!
