“Great value, cozy, but...”
Reviewed 13 August 2008

I just spent 4 nights in a one bedroom unit. The Woodlands is a great value, close to RMNP, Estes Park, and many restaurants. Our apartment was very nice, clean with tv/dvd/vcr, fully-equiped kitchen, fantastic balcony overlooking beautiful stream, and friendly staff. I did not give a 5 star rating because of the comforter on the bed. When I got into bed I noticed the comforter smelled. After checking the label on the comforter, I saw that it was dry-clean only. Being that the comforter serves as your blanket as well, I had to use it. However, I did pull the flat sheet up far so I could fold it over the top of the comforter so I did not have to have the comforter near my face. It still made me nervous being that it was dark brownish-green and smelled like it had not been cleaned in some time. My suggestion would be for The Woodlands to use a bottom sheet and duvet with cover. The bottom sheet and duvet cover would be washed between guests with no flat sheet necessary. That way each guest has only fresh, clean linens touching them. Other than the bed situation, this place is great.

We just got back from spending a wonderful 8 days in Estes Park, Colorado. We absolutely enjoyed our stay at The Woodlands on Fall River Road. It is wonderful facility in a great location right on the Fall River and just a short drive to either Downtown Estes Park or Rocky Mountain National Park. Betsy and the staff were "outstanding" taking care of our needs. I highly recommend the Woodlands and will stay there again when we travel to Estes Park.

Stayed here with my wife for 3 nights to explore Rocky Mt. National Park. We had #15 - a top floor one-bedroom suite at the far end of the "complex". Even though the daily housekeeping staff only changed towels and emptied trash during our stay - the place was spotless when we arrived. Fully stocked kitched with dishware, utensils, new coffee maker, full refrigerator, oven and microwave. Coffee, sugar, coffee filters and popcorn provided. Quite a large selection of free VHS tapes and DVD's on loan from the front office ( some quite recent and several about Rocky Mt. National Park); decent size TV in the living room and a smaller one in the bedroom. Friendly staff.

Convenient to the NE entrance to the park and to downtown. Comfortable bed. No AC ; but with the (screened) doors and windows open and with the ceiling fan and cool mt. air, you don't need it.

Negatives? - No fitness center. There was supposed to be free wireless but because we were in the unit farthest away from the Office we did weren't able to use it - ended up using some random open wifi signal. Also one other minor complaint was that the back porch and front porch lights were on all night. You couldn't turn them off.

As previous TA reviewers have stated, there 's a great river/stream of mountain water flowing right in front of the hotel that provides a soothing sound and drowns out road noise ( which wasn't very busy at night anyway). After a particularly long day of hiking, I returned to our room, got a soda and sat in the adirondack chairs in front to the hotel next to the cold mountain stream. Eventually stuck my tired feet in it -Wow !!!- only in the Rockies.
I'd stay here again - a great value.

We stayed here for four nights based on TA reviews. The place is very nice as other reviewers have indicated. We stayed in a lower unit and then moved to an upper unit (that was all that was available when I booked). Both were great - the lower unit was particularly 'nice' with leather dining room chairs and some other touches. We enjoyed the patio and balocny and the hot tub and grill. The units are next to the river which is next to a somewhat busy road -- but the river drowned out any road noise. Great value for the price.

  • Liked — balcony next to river, hot tub, grill, nice accomodation
  • Disliked — road across from river

Thank you Trip Advisor.

This was our first visit to Estes Park and we relied on the reviews here to help us choose Woodlands for our stay. We had good luck with other places highly regarded on TA and this was no different. We even rescheduled our trip dates so that we could get a 'room' here and we are glad we did.

The Woodlands are a bit unassuming. You have to know they are there or else you'll miss them. We even checked in-town brochures and pamphlets and we couldn't find them on any! I guess you don't need to advertise when you are always booked. (The Woodlands had no vacancy for the entire week we were there whereas we saw plenty of places posted with 'vacancy' signs around town.)

The Woodlands have a small number of units. Four buildings with four units each. Each building faces the Fall River which is about 10 yards away. Their location on Fall River Rd ended up working well for us because we could enter RMNP via the Fall River Entrance or hit town using Rte 34, both routes allowing us to bypass town which could get busy.

We had a 2BR unit on the top floor. The unit was very clean and it had everything we needed. A full kitchen with dishes, utensils, pots & pans, refrigerator, stove w/oven, microwave and a dishwasher. (They even provided coffee, tea and sugar which saved us the trouble of buying it.) There was a fireplace and they provided firewood but we didn't use it. There was also a gas grill but we didn't use that either. The beds were comfortable (1 King and 1 Queen) and the bathroom was very clean. We had a deck overlooking the river which was nice to sit out on.

The grounds were well kept. There was a hot tub for all the units to share. (They provided towels.) We used it several times and encountered no one else. There was also a laundry room and they provided detergent which was really convenient. (A load of wash was $3 to wash and dry.) They also had a DVD library where you could checkout movies. The woman at the front desk, Betsy, was extremely nice and gave us excellent advice about the area. (She even let us print out boarding passes the day we left and that saved us a ton of time at the airport.)

We had a wonderful stay at the Woodlands and we are telling all our friends and family about it. We would definitely stay here again.

I stayed at the Woodlands in June 08. The location is great - only two miles to the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park and couple of miles from downtown Estes Park.

The grounds were very nice with the river flowing right in front of the cabins. The rooms were very large and all the amenities were included (dishwasher, plates, utensils, microwave, even a bbq). There is a shopping center down the road where you can buy food to save on some cost. There is even a washer/dryer that is available for a nominal cost ($1.50 each).

The only negative I could find is that I thought the condos were a little noisy. I thought that it was a separate cabin, but you are attached and there is an upper and lower floor. I might have just been unfortunate to have noisy neighbors, but that is my only complaint and why I gave the review 4 stars instead of 5.

Overall, a pleasant stay at one of the nicer complexes close to the park and downtown Estes. I would recommend.

Having been on a road trip for over 2 weeks, this was a great choice for a 3 night stay as a base to explore Rocky Mountain National Park. The rooms are essentially small apartments with a full kitchen & we very comfortable. The location right on the river was great & the 'condos' were set up to take full advantage of the location. Whilst the Woodlands is a couple of miles from town, you would only be here with a car so it doesn't matter.

Staff (Betsy in particular) were very accomodating throughout.

We only heard of this place via tripadvisor but are sure glad we discovered it.
