“Hidden Gem!”
Reviewed 8 June 2009

My wife and I stayed at The Woodlands in a one-room suite in June 2009 and were amazed. We walked in and immediately noticed the cleanliness, spacious atmosphere, and amazing bed. It felt like a Westin Heavenly bed, which made us feel at home because of a great night sleep.

We were provided with a grill outside our door. It was convenient to make burgers right by Fall River. One night, elk grazed right across the river from us and we watched them as we sat by the river and enjoyed the weather. The sound of the river put us right to sleep every night, although, the bed was so comfy that we were asleep instantly.

Maid service came daily and the staff always left a bundle of fresh wood on our doorstep. The front desk also had a large assortment of DVDs that are available free of charge to the guests.

As a person who travels a lot, I would highly recommend the Woodlands to anyone visiting Estes Park with a spouse or with your whole family.

There were 6 of us in three units, all on the ground floor. We had a small family reunion, and were from three states. All loved the Woodlands and staff. Great place to stay and not a Bank breaker.

We stayed 3 nights in Room 16. It was half the top floor of a two story cabin; one of four units. Ours was like a one-bedroom apartment.

Outside each unit was a grassy yard with a wood bench and a BBQ grill. Our entry to the cabin had a porch with a complimentary pile of wood to use in the living room fireplace. Inside, off the entry hall, was a comfortable king-sized bed in the bedroom; a decent bathroom with the tub/shower and toilet separate from the marble-topped sink counter area; and a generously-sized, light-filled living room with a cathedral ceiling, a fireplace, sleeper sofa, a well-equipped L-shaped kitchen and a breakfast table with a complimentary basket of snacks. The balcony had several arm chairs so one could look out over the rushing stream below -- a pretty view. I was very glad we got an upper unit with the balcony and cathedral ceiling.

We borrowed DVDs so we could watch movies at night in front of a roaring fire after a day of hiking. We also used the good hot tub on the property, screened for privacy. Everything was very clean, the Owner was friendly. It was just down the road from the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park and just a short drive from Estes Park's main street with all the touristy shops and restaurants. One night, however, we stayed in to fix dinner in the cabin, which was a nice change from eating out.

My only complaints might be that the beds were not made every day, as I had expected they would. Also, the bedroom does not have blackout shades on the windows and it has a small half-round window right over the bed. However, there are many trees to block out strong sun on the bedroom side. These negative points are minor compared with the overall good impression we had.

We stayed at Woodlands for several days in a room on the river which is only 20-30 yards from your door. This is one of the cleanest places we have ever stayed, everything is provided for you. The kitchen is equipped better than ours at home, full size stove, fridge, dish washer and all the essentials for cooking. There is a TV in each room although they are older models, cable tv is provided as are movies you can check out for the DVD player. The bath has ashower tub combination, a hair dryer and shampoo and soap is provided in individual packages for your use. The bed room has a king bed and is comfortable although a little crowded, no iron or ironing board are provided this would really be handy and are standard in most places now, you have to drag one from the laundry room if you need one. They do have a laundry room that you can use and it only costs a few dollars to wash and dry your clothes. A lot of improvements have been made since our last time a few years ago, unfortunately there is a lot of clutter about the property from unfinished projects. The manager Betsy was very helpful with information on the area as she has been here for many years. The lady in the office on Betsy's days off didn't have a clue about much of anything, I think she is the owner asthere were kids in the office with her and said they live 30 miles away. Betsy and the cleaning lady came around each day and emptied the trash and gave us clean linens if we needed, they also changed our bed a few days after we were here. I highly recommend the Woodlands on the Fall River as it is most likely the cleanest place we have stayed, and is very cozy, relaxing and quiet. Hopefully some of the things unfinished and things needed will be taken care of.

Estes Park is one of our favorite places and now we have a favorite place to stay there. It was so nice to have a large 1-bedroom suite as opposed to a standard hotel room. The bed was very comfortable and we made full use of the living room and kitchen. We will certainly plan to stay here again next time we go to Estes Park.

My wife and I managed to get away for a night without the kids...very rare! The Woodlands property and staff were excellent and we would absolutely stay there again. Clean, comfortable and quiet...
The wood burning fireplace was a nice touch; most places have switched to gas.

We stayed for 2 nights at The Woodlands and wished we had booked for longer. Each "cabin" is made up of 4 apartments, two upstairs and two downstairs, but we were never aware of any other occupants in the whole cabin.

The location is excellent, only a couple of miles from Estes Park and likewise from the RMNP entrance (at Falls River). It overlooks this pretty little river and the setting is just wonderful.

The apartments are extremely well furnished - ours had a huge double bed and the kitchen was very well kitted out (even with complementary t-bags and coffee).

There was also a very good DVD selection and a log fire which made for two very romantic evenings in!

  • Liked — Quality of accommodation and location
  • Disliked — I found the duvet too hot (my husband was fine though!)
