We were here a year or two ago and enjoyed it. This visit was not so good. The place looks and smells (bathroom) a little dirty. We had to wait. Service was fair. Food was only fair. I don't think we'll go back.

The sheer volume of keys is little overwhelming! The ride up to the inn is not for the feint of heart (cliffs) but the view is absolutely gorgeous!

The innkeepers at our hotel told us we should check this place out. We were not disappointed! According to them, this building is a largely original structure from the early 1900s. Fur trappers apparently used to stay here back in the old days. It's a neat old place and we loved watching the numerous hummingbirds right outside the windows, which also provide a lovely view of nearby mountains.
The menu basically consists of a salad bar, some breads, a choice of two soups and some desserts. Everything tasted pretty good. The chili was okay. Our two lunches with iced tea and water came to about $30. We didn't have any room left for dessert!
The key collection in the next room was more interesting than I had expected it to be. A pleasant young man greeted us and gave us a little history of the room. He showed us some of the highlights, such as keys to rooms in the Pentagon, NASA, and even a key that belonged to Adolf Hitler. There are keys wall-to-wall and even hanging from every part of the ceiling. It was actually pretty cool. Visitors are invited to leave behind a key of their own with a message to be displayed along with the other keys for future visitors to see. And if you don't have a key on you that you can spare, they have some "orphaned" keys to which you can attach a message for display as well.
This is a neat old place. The service is friendly and the ambience is unique. Right across the road from the property is Lily Lake. It's a beautiful place to take an easy walk and I think there are some more challenging trails nearby for those who are so inclined.

Baldpate Inn is the real deal with history oozing out every corner. Large key collection includes incredible variety anywhere from the Titanic, to presidents's keys, that go so far back in history. Old photographs with famous visitors, great soup and salad bar with home-made pies and full bar and beautiful mountain views make this place a must-see on every visit to Estes Park!

I was intrigued by what I read from other reviewers on TA, so knew I had to see the key collection for myself. The Inn sits off the road, and you have to look carefully for the sign. Down a dirt road, and there sits the almost 100 year old Inn. It has a lot of character, which I expected in something this old. But that's part of the charm. It has its own kind of beauty. The key room is exactly what is says it is-20000 keys hanging on the walls and from the ceiling. Many are framed and have the story of the key written beside it. You could spend hours walking through and reading about their history. Since we didn't have that much time, it was just hit and miss what we found. I do wish there was some type of guide pointing out where certain keys were located-Frankensteins Castle, Westminster Abbey, etc. it won't spoil your vacation if you miss the collection, but it will definitely give you something to talk about afterward. We didn't get to eat at the restaurant, which I heard is vey good.
