“Great Motel -- A Gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2011

We made reservations after reading previous reviews. Certainly a great place to stay,
very accommodating, super clean, and the hosts were wonderful people.
We stayed 2 nites while vacationing in the area, our grandchildren loved the pool and hot tub in the evening. We stayed at national franchised hotels during our vacation and they could not compare to this one!!

We loved our room at the Saddle & Surrey in Estes Park, it was the cleanest and most comfortable beds we slept in on our trip. We will definately stay there again on our next trip back to Estes Park.It was an easy drive from there to Rocky Mountain National Park.
Our host Barb was wonderful, our room was ready when we arrived and all the maps helped us get around the Estes Park area.

Room Tip: Very Clean and comfortable room

After seeing positive reviews on Trip Advisor, we made a reservation and are glad we did. Since we have been travelers around the country for more than 50 years, we still like to find family-run motels with parking at the door. There aren't very many good ones left, but this one is wonderful. The room and bathroom were sparkling clean (think Switzerland clean) and the bed was very comfortable. One unusual thing for the modern age is that there was no electronic key system - rather, one gets a real key. I remarked about it and was told "We hear that a lot".
The owners are very pleasant and interesting to talk to. If I remember correctly, they bought the place in 90"s after arriving in the area from New Jersey. They updated and the results have yielded a great place to stay. It is out of town to the south a few minutes and as such is away from the crowds in Estes Park. A reviewer mentioned traffic noise until 10:00, but I didn't hear anything. In fact, route 7 isn't really a heavily traveled road anyhow compared to 34 and 36 to the east of town.
A light breakfast of coffee, juice, and a variety of pastries was available too.
Whether young people who only have knowledge of large chains would choose this place, I don't know, but we're glad we stayed here.

Thanks Trip Advisor. When I found other positive reviews for this motel, we decided to stay at here and found them all to be true. Our room was large and most important very clean!! The beds were very comfortable, and we had a nice flat screen TV. We stayed 5 nights and found it to be a good location in Estes Park.

I had chosen this motel after reading the reviews here. This is great place to stay when you want to explore the park and not spend a fortune on overpriced lodging in Estes Park. The motel is just a 5 min drive from the busy centre of Estes Park but conveniently located on the Col-7 highway. To get to the park entrance we drove past Mary Lake which was a short drive to the park and avoided traffic in Estes Park. The owner(s) were so friendly and helpful. We had 2 good nights of sleep, enjoyed the clean room and huge muffins for breakfast.

This property was a highlight in our trip to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. The property was extremely clean and well kept. The owners were helpful and friendly. I enjoyed being out of peak travel traffic jams at this property while still being close to the RMNP entrances and "downtown" Estes Park. The room, pool and grounds were all very nice and worth every penny spent. Don't be put off by the stereotype of the typical "motor lodge." This property is not your typical Motel. You will not regret staying here.

We chose this motel because of consistently high reviews on TripAdvisor and its low rates. Honestly, we did not expect much. The location seemed a bit suspect in that it is not that close to downtown. Some of what we found when we got there seemed to confirm our low expectations. It looked like a stereotypical 1950s motel. Indoors, the walls were covered with fake wood paneling. But The Saddle and Surrey turned out to be much more than we expected, so much more that we stayed 3 nights. The owner/operators were exceptionally concerned about our comfort and very helpful with information about where to dine. And where not to dine . . . we should have listened. The appliances in our kitchenette were virtually new. The kitchen cabinets were well furnished with everything we needed to cook and eat at "home." The whole place was clean. Even the grout in the shower/bath was scrubbed spotlessly white. The maid service (overseen by a family member) was impeccable. After we left the area, we stayed in a Hyatt Regency. In some ways, that was a step down. The towels at the Saddle and Surrey, for example, were bigger and softer than those in the Hyatt and they smelled better. We also had the option of cooking on an outdoor grill and eating on picnic tables outdoors, which we did. The only disadvantages were the traffic noise (which stopped about 10 p.m., unlike the very loud, persistent sounds of streams adjacent to some other properties) and a slightly musty smell when the room was left locked up for any period of time. Location? Excellent. Out of the hectic downtown-area traffic, but close via back roads to the national park entry and excellent dining.

Room Tip: Get a bigger room with kitchenette near the picnic tables. Leave windows open for fresh air when yo...
