“Great first motel experience”
Reviewed 2 October 2008

The S&S is a great family run motel on the outskirts of Estes Park. The innkeeper was very helpful on arrival - we were a bit early but she made sure we got a room and she gave us a couple of helpful hints about the altitude and Rocky Mountain NP. The room itself was large and clean and looked like it had been recently renovated. Breakfast was the usual motel affair - coffee, juice and pastries - but fine for us and the price. Very handy for RMNP but you will need a car to get to restaurants (or walk for about 20 mins).

I originally had booked the Saddle and Surrey Motel for a Sunday night stay. We enjoyed the motel and Rocky Mountain National Park so much, that we decided to extend our stay to Monday night also. We had to give up a non-refundable room at the Denver West Marriott to do this on Monday. That should give you an idea of how impressed we were with the motel and area.

We were charged with a AAA rate of $80 per night. This motel had some of the nicest owners we've encountered in all our travels. Our king room had a very home-like feel to it. We loved the wooden decor in the room, from the panels to the furniture. Best of all it was spotless. The room included a refrigerator, microwave and complimentary internet. The motel is just outside of town, so we found it very quiet in the evening. If needed, the room is equipped with a large air conditioner for warm evenings.

Outside the room the motel included: a continental breakfast, picnic area with grills, pool, hut tub and playground for kids. Parking is convenient, one can pull right up to their door. The office had plenty of information about the area. Our friendly hosts knew we were hiking, so they provided us with a neat little trail guide for the park.

Just as a comparison, we drove by the Holiday Inn and it looked so out of place in this beautiful town. I'm glad I ignored Priceline for Estes Park and booked directly with the Saddle and Surrey Motel. The Tripadvisor reviews were right on.

  • Liked — great hosts, clean and comfortable room
  • Disliked — the internet could have been quicker, but who's complaining

We originally were going to tay one night here but ended up staying two. They gave us an efficiency suite which had new cabinetry in the kitchen anmd bathroom. th kitchen was very well stocked with pots, pans, spatulas, and dishes. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We were most impressed with how well maintained and clean the rooms, pool and hot tub were kept. We absolutely will stay again.

We came for a family reunion. My expectations were rather low considering the rather low price for this destination. Wow! Were we surprised. The room was very clean and comfortable. The owners were onsite--no dealing with uncaring hired hands--and were most helpful in all regards. They were knowledgeable about the area and its attractions, providing maps and info about the local restaurants. Would stay again.

We planned to stay for 2 nights and ended up staying for 5! The motel rooms are not luxurious by any means, but they are very clean (very keen cleaners!) and well-equipped (with fridge, microwave and small dining table - which was handy as we were travelling with our baby). Breakfast (often you do not get any breakfast at all at motels in the USA) was great - pastries, bagels, fruit etc. The staff were really friendly and helpful. We loved relaxing in the hot-tub at the end of the day! On top of all that, it is one of the cheapest places to stay in Estes Park!

I and my wife stayed at the Saddle and Surrey in October and it was a very good experience. The Motel was clean and comfortable. No fancy stuff but that is not necessary if your idea is to have a great time on the mountains. The reception was excellent and Barbara the manager was very helpful. This motel is only 3 miles from Rocky Mountain National Park and very well located. The motel's maintenance is superb and everything was so clean. The price was very good for a king bed, tub shower and kitchen. It is a great place to stay and I would highly recommend Saddle and Surrey for any practical vacationer.

My wife and I stayed here at the Saddle & Surrey on our trip to Estes Park. We had found that we made a wise choice. The rooms were VERY clean and modern. We rode in on motorcycles and the owner made us feel comfortable with supplying us with towels to clean them. Very biker friendly! We we're greeted with a warm welcome not only when we arrived but nearly every day as we came in contact with the owner. We highly recommend and WILL return again.
Thanks Barbara for the great stay!
