Castle Mountain Lodge

This stay was a surprise birthday getaway for my husband. We bought land outside Estes Park about a year ago, but as it will be a few years before we can move here, we've been sampling local places to stay with each visit.

We stayed in Little Castle, and it was simply perfect. I'd wanted a studio-type room with a wood-burning fireplace and kitchen plus close proximity facing the Fall River. Little Castle had it all! Although we did not see any wildlife there (despite copious photos of such critter visits on the lodge website) we found it to be a peaceful, welcome respite.

After spending the days riding horses, visiting our land, and watching elk in the national park, the lodge was a great place to collapse! All the staff members were exceedingly pleasant and helpful. The property is IMMACULATE. The wi-fi worked great, and we were impressed by the "library" stocked with books, movies and games plus a model train that circled the room overhead! The location was really lovely, and the river noise pretty much drowned out the traffic from Fall River Road, which is close.

For my husband's birthday dinner we used the charcoal grill on our deck to cook steaks and baked potatos and had a real feast! Even our small kitchen was stocked with everything we needed to make a full meal. We drank coffee one morning and shared glasses of wine one evening sitting in the wooden Adirondack chairs right on the river. There are a variety of cabins to choose from, so although our cabin was for two, there are units that larger families can share.

The only thing that could be improved on was the amount of firewood provided each day...it was only enough for about an hour-long fire, so you'll need to purchase or bring extra wood if, like us, you like long fires at night as well as one in the morning!

A great place to stay.

My husband & I stayed in the River Castle cabin. We were next to the river and enjoyed a wonderful stay with a fireplace and an in cabin jacuzzi. We had a kitchenette and everything was clean and nicely decorated. The cabin could have slept 6 comfortably.
I would recommend this lodge to anyone. The staff was friendly and very helpful.

I have visited Estes Park many times, and have stayed at both good and bad properties there. The Castle Mountain Lodge is the best I've seen in Estes Park. The first thing that struck me is the housekeeping. As I walked into the lobby the owner's pride in this property was evident. The hostess was friendly and helpful, and everything in sight was spic and span - in excellent order. The same was true in our cabin. Everything was spotless and in it's place, yet the decorations were rustic and subtle. The surrounding scenery beautiful, with tall fragrant pines and little birdhouses scattered around the property. Gorgeous blue jays and other birds scrambled for birdseed, along with a few squirrely squirrels. There are barbecue grills and picnic tables adjacent to each cabin, with more along the riverfront for guest use. The only drawback I can think of is the cabins are somewhat close to each other, and the entire property is not terribly far off the road. Nonetheless, this is the only place I will stay in Estes Park from now on.

We stayed a week and did enjoy the wonderful property with many large ponderosa pines and the rushing Fall River flowing right through. The cabins have ample lawn and leisure space in between.

The lodge also has several nice common rooms and you get a friendly and efficient greeting when you check in.

Rooms are kept very clean and motel amenities are frequently replaced.

Unfortunately, the property is right across from the main road into the national park, with constant daytime movement of cars. That is, the road is just behind and on the other side of the river. The cars aren't honking their horns, but they are whishing by all day. We stayed in one of their best cabins but never used the patio because of this problem. If you are sensitive to this I'd rent one of the hillside cabins with patios facing up the mountain, which has a mature and nice pine forest.

Other than the road noise, this place is great.

The views were wonderful and the prices reasonable. The atmosphere was private and quiet. We wouldn't stay anywhere else.

I've stayed at the Castle Mountain Lodge two summers in a row (2005 and 2006) and will stay there again when I go back this year. The staff is so friendly and helpful. I've stayed in the River Castle cabins; they are clean and comfortable. There's a fridge, microwave, stove and oven in the cabins (very helpful). Cabins have their own outdoor grill. Furnishings aren't brand-new, but they're clean and more than adequate. There's a nice laundry facility, and the main building has books and videos to borrow. There's a play area for kids.

The property stretches along the Fall River, and there are numerous picnic tables and comfortable chairs-- wonderful to relax in. You may look at the map and think that the road is too close (it's just on the other side of the river) but because of the wonderful river noise, you don't even hear the road.

The only concern is that if you have multiple cars, parking is tight.

This is not a five-star property, but it's clean, comfortable and convenient to Rocky Mountain National Park and to the town itself. I won't stay anywhere else in Estes.

My husband and I stayed for a birthday weekend at the Castle Mountain Lodge in Estes Park the weekend February 23. We had previously stayed there 2 years ago in the "Great Room" suite and it was wonderful. We especially liked having our own deck and hot tub. This trip we stayed in the "Castle View" cabin; a one bedroom w/ inside hot tub suite. The accommodations were slightly rustic but since this is the mountains that was perfectly fine. My one concern is that the cabins are very close together and in high season you wouldn't have much privacy on your patio or deck. Also, if you go in winter, the heating is tempermental but there is a wood burning fireplace.

Estes Park is a great place in the winter since the crowds are much smaller and you get better service at most places.
