My wife and I planned a 10 day trip to Rocky Mountain National Park and after much investigation of the many cabin options on the Internet we settled on River Spruce Cabins in Estes Park for the first 5 nights. What a fantastic choice!!! After reviewing their website and even asking them for more pictures to see the specific cabin we were interested in I called to make reservations. Communicating with both Shelley and Wendye was easy and painless. They gave me all the info needed to plan our stay and find the place. They also turned out to be super hosts and made us feel like old friends.
They purchased the property in Feb. 2007 and are getting ready to winterize the 7 cabins so it can remain open all year. Should be beautiful in the snow. They are super friendly and know all the best local restaurants, attractions, hikes, etc. and will readily make recommendations and reservations for you. Fresh hot muffins every morning (but Sundays) are an extra nice touch.
The property lies right on the Big Thompson River literally across the road from the Natl. Park. While we were there a Mama black bear and her 2 cubs were roaming the neighborhood. Although it is just a couple miles from downtown Estes Park and even closer to a good supermarket and 2-3 very good restaurants, while you're on the site you feel like you're in the wilderness. The river is so peaceful and the hummingbirds at the feeders make it really relaxing. Also, the southern entrance to the Park is about 1 mile away. And came upon a large herd of elk just down the road.
We were in the Hopi cabin, a 2-bedroom with separate living room and kitchen. It was nicely decorated and very confortable. The beds were good too and each bedroom had a closet. The kitchen was fiully equiped, including microwave. The whole place was immaculately clean. And there's even full cable TV.
We agreed that this was the best cabin property we've ever stayed at! The whole area - Estes Park and Rocky Mtn. - is also great. Spectacular scenery, wildlife, hiking, fishing, shopping, extra nice people!! All in all a super place. We've stayed in LOTS of cabins over the years and River Spruce was easily the best!
