Having stayed at the Stanley several years ago, we were looking forward to sitting by the pool, taking in the view and relaxing with our daughter, grandson and his friend plus a couple from our hometown. Upon checkin we were informed that the pool was not open for "technical" reasons (no alert on web page or when we telephoned for reservation change) ... ok, two eight year old boys with swimming suits and no place to go!
The rooms were very hot, but we understand that many mountain resorts do not have a/c ... it just would have been nice to have a fan that worked higher than low speed.
Dinner at the hotel restaurant, Cascades, was a trial of patience. While the server was literally running and very apologetic, it took over three hours to get drinks and dinner. One can only blame management for having inadequate staffing of the kitchen, bar and servers.
There was no option to pay upon checkin - payment was made upon reservation and required a 72 hour cancellation.
Our friends said they will never be back - too bad, they travel to Colorado frequently - and I'm not sure if we will return.
It is a beautiful facility, but with management so bad, I'm sure many will come to the same conclusion.More
