There is NO air conditioning and the price of the room and dinner were WAY TOO MUCH to spend on what you get. I was so excited to stay here - with all the ghost stories and such. The look of the hotel fits the bill and the view off the porch really is great. Here are my biggest complaints in order:
1 - The room was over 85 degrees - all day all night - and their stupid little fans do nothing to cool you off. When we mentioned it to the front desk - they said the rooms always stay above 85 degrees.
2 - Dinner service was just awful - the food was fine. The drinks were fine. The bill was super expensive and a rip off. The kitchen was fast but the waiter was so slow - and there were only 5 tables full. The table next to us had to get up to show the bartender how to make a dirty martini!! We overheard him say he would fire his staff if they got it wrong THREE times.
3 - It's a tourist trap - there are (as a previous poster put it) HERDS and HERDS of people streaming through the hotel at all times. And outside your room door too... so no escape from it. Oh and we were told it's a wedding factory - with up to 5 weddings per weekend.
4 - You would think for $260 and a crappy room that they would throw in the $10 hotel tour!! Seriously?! BTW Here is a link to "touring" hotels - http://www.cnn.com/2012/08/07/travel/hotels-worth-touring/index.html?hpt=hp_c3 It's quite laughable that the Stanley is THE ONLY ONE TO CHARGE FOR A TOUR!! And by the way - the some of the other hotels only offer tours to their guests... brilliant for someone looking for a nice quiet getaway.
5 - There was a group there - meaning - they had a room block with a negotiated rate. Typically hotels reserve their worst rooms for people paying a discounted rate. Well somehow - we were paying FULL price and staying in what is probably one of their WORST rooms. I will attach the picture of the corner for you all to see our view!
I'll never say a good word about it and I'll never return. I also agree with that other poster - if the prices weren't so expensive - I probably wouldn't be so angry!

We just stayed at the Stanley hotel and it was wonderful. Based on previous reviews we were aware of the lack of a/c (which is also mentioned on their website) but even though it was August it was very cool each night. The second night we even closed the windows because it was cold in the room. We had anamazing view of mountains out of every window that was unbelievable to wake up to. The hotel is a little loud at night with people in the hallway and people on the front porch, but definitely worth it for such a unique experience.

We stayed in a "haunted" room. Absolutely nothing "haunted" occurred, but there was plenty of annoyances from the morons standing outside our room all night going "I have a recorder. If you want to communicate speak into this. Make this light flash red to show your presence". I don't know if the nimrods got any ghosts but they probably got my voice screaming for them to get away from my room so I could get some *blanking* sleep. I am pretty sure they'll just take that as proof of ghostliness. This hotel is really gouging on the "haunted" bull, and they admit they deliberately charge an extra 150 a night for rooms, just because they are "haunted". What a rip-off.

Room Tip: Don't get a "haunted" room or you will be kept awake all night

We were very excited to visit the Stanley Hotel and go on a ghost tour. We bought tickets for the "Ghost and History Tour" for 15 dollars a ticket. They really should not advertise this tour as a "ghost" tour. It was 90 minutes of mostly historical information. Most of which was as boring as the change in paint colors in various rooms. The tour guide briefly mentioned a few "ghost" stories, but mostly just mentioned "paranormal" photos that had been taken on the tour (orbs, white mists, etc.). We were taken to rooms 217 (the room in which Stephen King supposedly wrote The Shining) and room 401 which has reported paranormal activity. We were not allowed to go in either room, and were only able to stand outside the door. If you are looking for a factual historic tour of the hotel, it's average. If you are looking for a good "ghost" tour, you will be severely dissapointed. It may have been due to the tour guide who was new, but we were dissapointed.

We travel to Estes Park every summer to retrieve our daughter from summer camp. We have driven by The Stanley many times and decided to give it a try this summer for 3 nights.

Disappointments: No water or complimentary coffee in the rooms - even budget hotels offer this. No a/c - only ceiling fans and operating windows, though it gets loud at 2 a.m. when guests return from partying. The pool is NOT, I repeat NOT heated!! Even in summer months it is in the low 50's - the pool is FREEZING!! I understand being historic, but this is RIDICULOUS!! The door to our room was a full 2" below the frame, so every word or sound in the hallway was heard as if the guests were in our room - not a plus. The work out room was 1/2 the size of the gift shop, which shows where the $ is being spent. Great view, but 4 machines side by side - not welcoming! Our room and bathroom had not been updated in at least 20 years. This is great for a vintage-lover, which I am, but doesn't justify paying the premium price for the experience.

Advantages: AWESOME location and views. The front porch CANNOT be beat to curl up and read, watch a wedding, share a cocktail, take in the beauty of the Rockies. Starbucks on site, though in the basement. Lovely, period lobby and elevator as well as terrace and waterfall. Though, back terrace seemed to never be open while we were there. Caveat: We did not eat any meals at the resort, so the prices seemed quite high. We also did not use any concierge service (not even sure there was one).

Overall, if you plan to visit Estes 4 or 5 times, I would have this be a one-time visit. You will have your fill in 2 nights and not need to return. It is convenient, just not a bargain for the charm.

Room Tip: Go for a room in the front of the building to maximize the view of the mountains.

Stayed 2 nights in July at the Stanley in the Manor. The rooms were newly renovated, so were clean and fresh, a little on the small side and no refrigerators, or ac, so it can be hot in the summer since there was not a breeze on the side out room (314) was on. I enjoyed spending time reading on the veranda on the plush seating, much nicer than the seating on the hotel veranda. The continental breakfast included in the room price was excellent, I think there may also have been an afternoon tea included but not sure. Was set up the day we checked in but they didn't mention it so was not sure if it was included or not. They also did not mention that the continental breakfast was included so we went to the restaurant the first morning, and I had the thing as I got the second day for free - fruit, yogart & granola. Nice experience for one or two night but for a longer stay would look into a condo unit.
