“Great customer service.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 June 2014

We spent one night and two days at the the Providence Marriott. We initially had difficulty with the shuttle service. We also had difficulty getting into our room only to discover that the batteries needed to be changed in the door. Both Molly and Matthew at the front desk were extremely apologetic and helpful. They genuinely felt badly that we were inconvenienced and went out of their way to accommodate us. The room was extremely comfortable and the breakfast buffet was delicious. We will definitely return to this hotel when we visit Providence again.

Room Tip: We had a corner room facing the pool. Very spacious.

This is a fantastic hotel. If you are traveling to Providence, the service is the best. I traveled here for a college reunion, and enjoyed the stay immensely. The Aqua Lounge by the pool is really a great way to spend an evening in Providence! I highly recommend the Marriott Downtown!

We have stayed at this hotel many times over the last 4 years. It has been consistently a wonderful experience starting by the friendly greeting at the front desk. Roland Proulx, the guest relations supervisor, runs a well organized, efficient and welcoming team. The rooms are comfortable and well maintained. The exercise room is very well equipped and accessible. Great breakfast buffet......and fun cocktail list. Wonderful pool and terrace to be enjoyed in the warm weather.
We loved our experience with this hotel.

We picked this hotel for it's beautiful outdoor space. It did look really nice through the window since that is the only thing I could see since it was CLOSED/LOCKED the whole three nights we were there. We booked a block of 10+ rooms and even called before booking to make sure our group could gather out there. They said yes. Understandably the outdoor pool wasn't open. When we arrived and asked about it we were told that it was closed and a safety risk to be out there (not sure what is not safe about sitting in chairs), they were very dismissive about advertising the space and not being able to utilize it. Then when we gathered at a table in the lobby area and the kids had some cupcakes from a local bakery we were told we had to leave because for code reasons we couldn't eat in the lobby unless it was their food. Then at 9pm two families were in a room talking and got told they had to be quiet or they would be kicked out. I understand respecting all other guests which is why we wanted to be outside or in the lobby. Talk about not feeling welcomed.
The location is close to town but not exactly a friendly walk to anywhere since it is on the other side of the highway. Completely not worth the extra $60 a night we spent compared to friends that stayed 5 miles away and got free breakfast.
The rooms were extremely small and had some updated finishes on a old hotel. They did a nice job with the common areas (their money makers of course). The staff wasn't friendly when calling the front. We booked a room for 4 people and everyday there were only 3 towels. When booking the hotel ordered extra pillows and foam pillows. Of course they weren't in the room upon arrival and when we called it took over and hour for them to show up with more pillows....and they were feather. It seemed like a nice touch to order in advance but was pointless and just demonstrated their lack of follow through. Lots of fancy marketing but service isn't there.
Our group comes here every year with a group booking and won't be coming back.

Dear werpsu,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. I am so sorry you felt that your group did not have a good time. Our outdoor lounge, AQUA, opened for the season on May 19. Up until that date, AQUA is preparing for opening day with lots of seasonal cleaning and repairs from a long cold winter. This year, prior to opening day, there were times when the deck floor was being repaired that it would not have been safe and therefore the doors were locked. I do apologize that you felt our hotel was not as good as your friends' hotel that was outside the city. Our location, while not right by the mall, is within close proximity to most area attractions and some of the best restaurant in the city. I also apologize that you felt the service was lacking warmth and follow through. That is not acceptable as genuine kindness and extraordinary service is what our associates are trained to provide. I have reviewed your comments with our management staff and will follow up to be sure that our level of service exceeds our guests' expectations. I hope you will give us another chance and we can see you poolside this summer!
Sincerely,
Eric Churchill, General Manager

The Providence Marriott Downtown, is a disappointment, this was my second time and I am floored at the reviews that encouraged me to stay. When I looked closer, Tripadvisor as a real problem hear, over 50 of the 60 latest reviews or 31 of the past 4 pages are "single reviewers", only one "Top Contributor" has anything positive to say and the other recent "Top Contributors" all slam the property. "Someone" does not even make the effort to create better profiles, this place is a dump. Stayed here over a weekend. Location is not really Downtown, it was a nice walk to downtown (not in office attire). A shuttle service is provided, but only with reservations, if you forget, depending on the valet or front desk, the shuttle may come about 45-60 minutes later. Front desk service was very accommodating and so was the staff, the staff is the only plus here. The rooms though are average with surface level renovations. The ever photographed bathroom granite, was not even installed correct. Plus the bathrooms are small (can't fix that, but what really made the room ehhh was the furniture and linens. The property does afford a great view in relation to downtown Providence. Although better suited as a Fairfield, the property does have a gym, heated indoor/outdoor pool, full service restaurant (we ate breakfast with no problem) on premises. Parking is free, which may be nice, but if your going to have to pay for parking somewhere else downtown (because of the walk), I would stay at the higher end Courtyard by Marriott for usually the same price or spring for the new stunning Renaissance Hotel nearby (a gem), both truly in downtown Providence. Check those reviews for reality.

Dear Jerry,
Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel and to share your experiences with us. I apologize that you felt our reviews where not a true reflection of our property. All hotels are encouraged by Trip Advisor to ask our guests to post their experiences on Trip Advisor and we have asked our guests to do just that. While our hotel is not located close to the mall, we are within a ten - fifteen minute walk. We are also within walking distance to some rather spectacular restaurants and area attractions close to the East Side. Our complimentary shuttle service does required reservations simply to insure that everyone has a seat. It departs the hotel each half hour. Thank you for noting that you had a lovely breakfast experience in our restaurant, the Bluefin Grille. Our indoor and outdoor connecting pools helped us receive the Best Hotel for Pool Lovers by Yankee Magazine 2014 so thank you for noting how great they are. I do apologize that you did not have a room with a view of the city. If you do visit us again, please request a city view and we will be certain to place you in such room. You may contact me directly to confirm this.
Sincerely,
Eric Churchill, General Manager

Even Roger Williams would have found this hotel to be dated. This icon to the ugliest of the seventies needs far more than a refreshing. The HVAC is clumsy and noisy, waking one every time it shifts gears, which is often. the beds are lumpy and the carpets old. Providence has grown some, but the Marriott has not kept pace. Service from top to bottom is indifferent, at best. Post stay complaints are followed up with form emails, and calls are not returned.
The location is inconvenient in what was once a slum neighborhood. The only advantage is the ample self-parking, which is a function of the out of the way location. By the way, on the days I stayed the room prices were the highest in the city.

Room Tip: Go to another hotel.

Providence Marriott Downton is located so well that access to every place is easy. In this busy weekend, they offered a shuttle service all day long. They welcome us with champagne and appetizers. Friendly, professional and knowledgeable staff was available everywhere. The Bluefin restaurant had an excellent breakfast buffet. The rooms were well appointed, clean and housekeeping was available at any time. Check in and out was fast. Excellent stay
