“A lovely stay.”
Reviewed 13 October 2013

Annie was a gracious host. She was very accommodating to our numerous questions and requests. We had the ground floor room as my sister cannot negotiate many stairs. The bed was extremely comfortable and the dressing room and bathroom were quite nice. The home itself is full of the lovely features of Victorian period homes- moldings, wainscoting and wide halls. The living room is a relaxing place to read a book or watch TV. The dining room is elegant and the breakfasts were delicious. The other guests were a combination of those passing through and return guests who appreciated the location, comfort and hospitality that this B&B offers. Our three night stay ended too soon but I will be returning because it felt like a home away from home.

We stayed at this B&B last week while traveling the New England states. While we found the accomodations wonderful, Annie was a bit unpredicatble. It took her over 5 minutes to answer the door and once she did, shes stated she had been taking a nap, She then stared at us, not introducing herself or welcoming us inside! Later, we had food delivered for dinner and her aged dog was allowed to stand at my knee, begging to be fed and panting on me while I tried to eat. At no time was Annie rude or condescending, but she seemed a tad "out of it"; tired and uninterested. The home was clean and tastefully decorated and the beds were comfortable. The location is great, although the parking area is small and difficult to navigate if you drive an SUV. Probably not anyplace we would stay again.

My first thought was NO......I had a bedroom in the front of the house on Angell St, and had to be up at 5 that next morning. There were no extra rooms, but Angell St is not that busy at night. I actually had a great night of sleep. Bed was awesome.

To step back, Annie Brownell House is on Angell St near Brown and a short walk to some great places on Thayer and a few others just a few blocks away. The house is nice enough with a living area and kitchen. The rooms are upstairs. There are no TVs in your room and the bathrooms are shared....Not a problem for me

A word about Annie: She is incredibly gracious and a wonderful hostess. She has a golden, but the dog is friendly. The house is clean. The stay was quite nice

From the beginning even our first phonecall was filled with humor and good taste. At our arrival, a lot later than expected, Annie greeted us like V.I.P.S. She was all smiles and so distinguished. Our sejour would never has been the same without her good advises and recommendations. Breakfasts were personalized and creative and I especially enjoyed her soft personality. The house and the decor are great and affordable.I am eager to stay there at my next trip to Providence. Love you Annie.

We loved staying in Annie's B & B. We were made to feel at home. It was also great to meet the other guests from other countries too.
Annie made the most gorgeous pumpkin pancakes for breakfast, along with cereals, fruit salad and yoghurt.
Very clean and comfortable, we had en suite bathroom. Bed was comfortable, area was quiet so we slept well too.
There is a local bus service which stops outside the house, you can take this into the town and benefit street. It's so easy to get about, we also walked to these areas as they are not too far.
Brown University is also close.
Will definitely return if we come back to Providence.

Room Tip: Rooms with a/c and very homely.

The house is beautiful - full of antiques - very spacious and lovely large rooms. However it did look rather tired as if it could do with a good spruce up and it was incredibly stuffy - as if no windows had been opened for some time and there was a very over powering smell of dog from the delightful old golden retriever who lives there. As others have mentioned there are no locks on the rooms and although we had wonderful apartment on the 3rd floor - I did find it rather disturbing that it was full of the owners belongings - as if she'd only partially moved out of it.
During the week we stayed the owner Annie appeared to be very unpredictable - at times she was welcoming and friendly and provided a wonderful, healthy breakfast - at other we were given the impression that is was all too much like hard work and us being there was very inconvenient for her and breakfast was just cereal and a bagel - whenever she chose to get up - even if we'd been down waiting for some time at the time she had advised us about in the first place. If any guest asked for anything like decaffeinated coffee they were made to feel very uncomfortable as if they were causing her real aggravation.
Our towels were changed just once in the week we were there - the owner handed us clean ones as we went upstairs - and after 2 days we had to go and ask for more toilet roll - there was none there at all when we arrived and we had had to search until we found a roll for ourselves. I don't think anyone came into our room all week - no one made the bed, emptied the bins or anything - this was fine by me - but not what you'd expect from a well run B and B.
It is very convenient for Brown and Thayer Street and we did have a great week- but more despite of our accommodation rather than because of it.

This B&B is far better than most of the B&B's I've ever been to. The house is big, and old, and it is so cozy that you will feel at home right away. The lady that is running this house is amazing, and really cares about what she does, and how you feel. She makes great breakfasts and is always happy to help out. Annie Brownell House made the whole trip more comfortable, and if I'm giong back to providence I know where I'm going to stay.
