“Excellent place to stay in Providence”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 March 2013

We just had a lovely stay at the Christopher Dodge House. My husband says it was the best B&B we've ever stayed in and we've stayed in a few. The bed was very comfortable, the common room had snacks, coffee/tea, newspapers and a computer 24 hours /day. The staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were delicious and varied.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 6 after reading reviews of rooms facing the highway being noisy. THis room is on t...

Lovely decorated rooms, good location and nice breakfast. The rooms are also big and very clean. As well as the bathroom. The cookies available near the front door are a lovely touch. The address is quit hard to find. Using the address, the GPS sent us to a totally different location. We were able to find the hotel name at the GPS and then we got to the right place.

My husband and I stayed at the Christopher Dodge House for the weekend. The B&B is located at the end of a quiet street but next to a major highway. There is nothing in walking distance so one needs a car (parking on site). Our room was located on the third floor and the stairs are quite steep and long. The room was lovely, though, heated by a gas stove, and had a very comfy bed. The tiny bathroom, however, was old and tired and the shower head was inadequate.
Breakfast was served from 8 till 10 and is limited to what's on the menu for that day. When we arrived at 9:15 the advertised muffins were gone already. My husband had the hot breakfast which included some grapes and the tiniest slice of cantaloupe we've ever seen, other than that, there was no fruit available. When we asked the waitress for fruit, she did bring us a small bowl of grapes. She also made some cupcake sized muffins to replace the advertised special. The staff really tried, but we found the breakfast to be the worst we've had at a B&B so far. We've stayed at many a B&B and this one, unfortunately, did not meet our expectations.

Room Tip: This property is not suitable for people who cannot walk stairs. Even the ground floor rooms are a f...

We were recommended by Marriot because they were all booked during the big blizzard. Came to the B&B and felt right at home. The staff treated us like family and the beds were even better than home! Clean rooms and a lovely JWU chef created a scrumptious homemade breakfast. The owner did a lot of wonderful renovation but still kept the 19th century feel with the right 21st amenities such as free wifi and business center. Most defiantly will be returning before the power goes out!

My wife and I spent a nice summer evening in this beautiful old house in the heart of Providence. Though very close to downtown, it was not quite within walking distance. We stayed in a room on the top floor (can't remember the name). It was lovely -- nice antiques and comfortable king bed with nice bedding. The breakfast the following morning was very good and served in a lovely dining room. The innkeeper greeted us upon arrival and gave us good suggestions for where to eat and what to do. The common areas were lovely and there were several nice spots to sit outside and read the paper. Our only hesitation in giving this 5 stars is that our room had some highway noise throughout the night. We would stay here again.

We spent a delightful pre-Christmas weeend here. The Inn was festively decorated, the staff was courteous and efficient. Our room had a delightfully BIG, high bed with its own steps! Breakfast was artfully prepared by a graduate of Providence's Johnson and Wales culinary school who was also a very charming woman. Our stay was a joy and we'd gladly return if in Providence again. We were given a pass to the nearby fitness center but didn't get to it.

We stayed at the Christoher Dodge house for a quick trip during Christmas week. What a beautiful place. The staff made us feel very welcome and proudly showed us around the house. The house and room are well appointed and feature historically accurate furnishings and decor. We enjoyed the breakfast. . . and also the free cookies. This certainly beats staying at a hotel!
