“A wonderful inn in a wonderful town...”
Reviewed 29 December 2012

My husband and I traveled from Bar Harbor to Lubec for an overnight. We were interested in traveling to Roosevelt's home in Canada (just over the bridge). Lubec is a quaint and beautiful seaside town. The Homeport Inn is conveniently located and we were able to walk to town to explore its beauty. The Inn is fairly small. The doors do not lock inside the building, but we were not worried about this. Our room was very comfortable and cozy. Our bathroom was attached. It was small, but had everything we needed. Parking was easy to find on the street in front of the Inn. When you checked in, you made your reservation for your breakfast. Breakfast was delicious and there were many choices. We had a very nice stay at the Inn and would return if we were ever in Lubec again!

I cannot say anything but great things about The Home Port Inn! As soon as my girlfriend and I arrived at the Inn we were greeted warmly by name by one of the owners Suzanne. She welcomed us in and showed us around the wonderful home. The room that we stayed in was "The Bay View" room, the room was very cozy and had amazing views of the bay! The only downside is the room is filled with windows and the sun rises very early in Lubec! The breakfasts that were prepared for us were nothing short of amazing! Hot was also ready and waiting for you if you wanted some tea in the morning. I highly recommend this place to anyone that is staying in the Lubec area for a few days, you will not regret your stay!

I must echo the favorable reviews. We were warmly welcomed and shown to our room, named the Bay View with three windows with views of the bay and a very comfortable chair and ottoman for taking that all in. All the furnishings were very comfortable, and the room and bathroom were immaculate. This room has a shower.

For our second night, because the Bay View wasn't available, we stayed in the Guest Room. The decor is very attractive and I loved the collection of three, small framed Renaissance Madonnas. I also loved the great bathtub in that bathroom, the only guest room with a bathtub. This room is smaller than the Bay View room but also has a lovely view of the bay from the window behind the bed.

The beds in both bedrooms were very comfortable, firm but still with some give.

Susannah is an excellent cook and the breakfasts are delicious and beautifully presented. Her blueberry pancakes are the best I've ever had. The colorful fiestaware matched the vibrant dahlias visible in the garden from the breakfast room. The breakfasts are the best I've ever had at a B&B in the U.S. I am missing them this morning.

Home Port Inn is easy walking distance to the main street that borders the harbor and a little park with many benches from which you can see the seals and the gulls at play. The tide is very strong and many of the gulls surf it toward the short bridge that connects Lubec to Campobello Island. There are at least three restaurants on this street and a couple of cafes and bars as well as an excellent small museum (on the water) on the herring industry http://lubec.mainememory.net/page/637/display%3Fpage=4.html , the main fishing livelihood for the towns people until the 1970's. The museum guide, the museum's collection, and the short video made it come to life.

We had an excellent dinner our first night in Lubec at The Inn on the Wharf www.theinnonthewharf.com made even more enjoyable by a lovely waitress from Bulgaria who has now spent three summers in the U.S. improving her English, saving money, and returning to graduate school. Their college term in Bulgaria begins later than in the U.S. so she and classmates are much in demand in the U.S. for the summer season employment. The sunset from the restaurant was gorgeous. We returned the second night for a much lighter meal because we had eaten a wonderful seafood lunch on Campobello at Family Fisheries. Again, another lovely meal at The Inn on the Wharf with excellent service from a local Maine woman and another young student from Bulgaria. They were both friendly and attentive.

When we return to Lubec, we will certainly choose the Home Port Inn.

Stayed at the Home Port Inn for two nights. Everything was exceptional! The blueberry French toast was amazing. The veggie omelette and homemade muffins were wonderful. There was wonderful fresh fruit for breakfast and the coffee was the best. Lots of variety!

The room we stayed in with two double beds was perfect. It was so clean and well appointed. And the beds were so comfortable.

Everything about the inn was pleasant. The other guests were lovely and friendly. The town and all that it had going was fun. The summer keys concerts were right across the street and so enjoyable.

Susanna and Dave were generous in their hospitality and lovely.

We will return soon!

This was a great choice for staying in Lubec. Our hosts were helpful and friendly. The breakfast had great variety and of course, tasted great. Our menu today was sausage/egg/cheese casserole with cheesy polenta and fresh baked blueberry muffins, plus a buffet of continental b'fast items. The rooms are well-appointed. Fellow guests were friendly and respectful, which was good because sound does travel in the house. We stayed in room #3 (The Guest Room) and would request The Library if we passed through again. The furnishings and decor in that room were superb! The common area was comfortable and a great place to pass the time. Also, the inn is just a super-short walk to the harbor and a view of a couple of great lighthouses!

We spent two nights at this lovely B+B in Lubec, Maine.
The owners Susanna and Dave, were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was substantial and delicious. Fruit was fresh; coffee was rich, not watered down. The warm blueberry muffins each day were a wonderful addition.
The home is nicely furnished and our room and bed were comfortable and clean.
We would definitely return to this B+ B.
Joyce

Room Tip: Rooms on the second floor are probably quieter because kitchen and dining room are on first floor.

We stayed for four nights and felt at home. Breakfast was delicious and varied. The proprietors were warm and anxious to make us feel at home. They also gave us suggestions as to how to best see the sights. I would love to go back.
